The hypocrisy of the 2 parties is unbelieveable. Democrats argue Palin is unqualified while saying Obama is qualified. Republicans argue Palin is qualified while arguing Obama is not.
Obama was elected as the Democrat nominee, mostly because he is black.
Palin was picked as the Republican VP, mostly because she is a woman.
Both sides need to acknowledge this and get off their high horses. Neither of these 2 is very qualified.
“Obama was elected as the Democrat nominee, mostly because he is black.’
That is absolutely the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen you comment, PF4AWG.
Not “fly” at all. Pretty disgusting for a white guy is more like it.
Tell us, why did Democrats elect Obama “mostly because he is black”?
PF4AWG wins most ignorant statement of the day award. Perhaps the week.
How did Obama respond?
Abba dabba dabba dabba;
I’m not suspending the campaign;
Umm, ahh, ahh, ahh;
I don’t know what I can do in DC;
I have no idea what to do;
You can talk to my staff;
I’ll go if they need me;
Maybe they don’t need me;
I called first
Leadership matters, and Obama’s reaction today isn’t leadership. John McCain said several times in his acceptance speech in St. Paul that country comes first. He showed that again yesterday. What has Obama demonstrated other than inaction and political calculation?
Why is Obama so vapid and hesitant and gutless?
Bad move, dissing Letterman for Katie Couric. There will be blood!
This meme that Obama was elected because he is black is unadulterated racism. The idea that blacks are voting for him because he is black dismisses all evidence, and is insulting in the extreme.
Alan Keyes has run for President about 3 or 4 times and never gotten a single black vote because his policies suck. Hillary was beating Barack i the black vote until they learned more about his policies and viability.
PRetty Fly, you are truly a racist. Has no business in our society.
Jbenson, McCain has not graced the senate floor since April. Now he rushes in? Political stunt through and through. You are a dupe if you believe it is otherwise. McCain will choose corporations over country every single time. If it destroys our economy and country but enriches multinational corporations, he is all for it, like all conservative politicians. You are not their constituent.
Thanks, Alec
This proves Obama can’t handle the “3 AM call”.
jbenson2,
“Abba dabba dabba dabba;
I’m not suspending the campaign;
Umm, ahh, ahh, ahh;
I don’t know what I can do in DC;
I have no idea what to do;
You can talk to my staff;
I’ll go if they need me;
Maybe they don’t need me;
I called first”
What source do you have for your partisan, wildly spun slander of Barack Obama?
Of course, if you are a right wing troll, you don’t need any “facts” to win arguments, do you pally.
How old are you again?
Jbenson - no, it doesn’t prove that at all. But your alleging that clearly demonstrates why your party is destined for Permanent Minority Status.
Nitro, I got the facts from the mass media news reports. Just listen to all the sound clips of Obama hemming and hawing yesterday. During his press conference, Obama cowered in the tall grass, refused to suspend his campaign, said he might not be needed, indicating he’s actually irrelevant to this issue and he wouldn’t know what to do anyways.
jbenson - here on terra firma, thinking people know different. And here’s just a couple of things thinking people know:
- John McCain cancelled his appearance on Letterman last night, because “he had to work on the crisis in W.D.C.” So, where was he during the time he would have been on Letterman? He was on COURIC.
- John McCain cancelled his debate with Barack Obama tomorrow, because he “had to work on the crisis in W.D.C.” So, where was he this morning? Giving a speech in N.Y.C.
BTW - what color is the air, up there on Planet Denial?
I think Alan Keyes got at least one black vote … his.
I had the unfortunate chance to listen to right-wing radio last night in the car with my Uncle and my guess is that JBenson was listening to the edited version of Senator Obama’s remarks.
Also, Senator Obama was actually responding to questions from the press while Senator McCain simply read from a prepared statement and left without answering any questions.
TPT - The reason McCain dropped Letterman was obvious. It was a wonderful opportunity came up to diss Letterman. And Letterman tried to respond in kind by putting on Olbermann.
Waffle - Wrong - I saw him on TV and Obama was speaking with his trusty teleprompter. He looked left and said something, then he looked right and said some more then he turned left and talked, And amazingly, he said um, er, ah, ahh, while he was reading the teleprompter.
So, jbenson - you think McCain LIED to Letterman, in order to DISS Letterman?
And that’s acceptable to you?
jbenson, you have a very sad, disturbing view of the world through your neo-con tinted lenses.
Since when do you think anyone can’t see right through your immature schoolyard bully interpretation of people you don’t like? DO you think that the readers of MN Publius are complete morons?
Good Grief, grow up man. You are what, 50-something years old? You are acting like a political 12 year old schoolyard bully.
You are so blinded by your partisan view that you do not even realize how badly you are representing Republicans. You really think your crap sandwich is going to fly anymore?
You, jbenson2, are truly a complete idiot.
Careful, Nitro - ya go and call him a name, and Sean might get mad…
TPT, he deserved it.
But thanks for the warning.
No problemo.
The reason Letterman and Obama get along so well is because they are both wired like entertainers. Obama would never have cancelled a Letterman visit. Think of the publicity. Legislation will always be there, but a date with Letterman is hard to get!
McCain isn’t good at the talk show circuit. Public Servants and Celebrity Entertainers don’t mix very well.
Say, Nitro?
DtM deserves it, too.
Wow, McCain has constantly been on Leno and Letterman over the years… consistently called a great guest… now all of sudden he is Mr. Humble who avoids the limelight. You guys don’t care much about facts and reality do you?
Their candidate doesn’t, why should they?
DtM: If McCain had wanted to skip letterman, that’s fine. The fact that he had to LIE in order to do it is the problem. Of course it is not seen as a problem for you….you’re a republican.
Well, lo - here’s what DtM and his ilk have been preaching, for years!
I don’t understand why I am being called a racist. I signaled out a Democrat and a Republican.
This is identity politics. Voting for WHO someone is, not their experience or viewpoints.
If Obama were white, there is no way he’d be the nominee. If Palin were a man, there is no way she’d be the VP nominee.
I think I am being fair. If someone disagrees, please give me some of the outstanding points from either of their resumes to justify why they are on the respective tickets.
“If Obama were white, there is no way he’d be the nominee.”
The burden is on YOU, pretty lame for a white guy, to prove your ignorant theory, not us.
You said it, you prove it.
So, WHY would Barack NOT be our nominee if he was white?
Spell it out for us, “Guy”.
Sure.
1) Because he had the least experience of any of the Democrat nominees for President in 2008.
2) Because his votes in the Illinois State Senate, specificially on guns, are the kind of votes that lose elections in Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
3) Because he a no major accomplishment in his 2 years in the Senate before running for President.
In fairness, many of the same things can be said about Palin. She was selected, primarily because she is a woman.
Be honest. Did anyone talk about Ken Salazar being President? Obama started serving the legislature in 1997, Salazar was elected AG in 1998.
Both were elected Senator in 2004. What is about Obama that makes him so better then Senator Salazar? Geraldine Ferraro has pretty much said the same thing, I don’t know what the big deal is.
It is amazing how much you all get your tights in a wad when I write something as blindly partisan as you all do each day.
Experiment successful.
Wow, DantheMan, now you’re experimenting with people who disagree with you?
Is that what you think of MN Publius?
Is MN Publius your little toy now?
For all the RW trolls here, I’d like to direct you to look up Obama’s biography- even I was more impressed than I expected to be.
First, according to the military people I know, McCain only followed military protocol: those captured first go home first. It’s in the manual. The myth of “allowing others to go first”, as in selfless John, is just that, a myth. (look that up as well if you’re not convinced)
Second, why was Obama nominated? That, I think, is complicated and had nothing to do with race. His excellence in every job put before him probably made the difference. See yesterday’s TYT (theyoungturks.com) piece featured on democraticubderground.com, for just one example. Barack was investigating this financial (so-called) crisis a year ago. On his own. Talking with experts in the field of both parties. When he says he gets it, he gets it.
McCain will say anything. Note his left eye drooping on TV yesterday. Lots of subterfuge going on in that campaign, some people of which ran their companies into the ground and received golden parachutes for it, or lobbied and received millions from the very people we end up bailing out.
One thing I notice, trolls are always mis-informed, yet full of hubris. See jeanine garafola on the bill maher show a couple weeks ago.
He who doesn’t know and doesn’t know he doesn’t know is a fool: shun him.
PF4AWG,
Your “proof” proves nothing, someone could make the same exact set of arguments to prove he was nominated for being tall. They mention nothing about him being black.
Get to it pally, what is it about being black that is different than being tall, or smart, or talking about kitchen table issues some people identify with.
What is it about the black, pally?
Explain it.
What an idiot to think Obama is the candidate because of race.
The man is the candidate because he WON the position in one of the longest and most contentious inter-party fight in the history of the Democratic Party. When he first tossed his hat in the ring I thought, nice gesture that will last a few months and then we run Senator Clinton. She has the machine, money and smarts to have this all but sewn up in Iowa. Now remember I’m a serious DFLer who pays attention to these kind of things and gave him a snowballs chance to come out of Iowa at all let alone win it. He won it, beat Clinton and I took a close look at the man and found my candidate. Many Democrats took a look at him and said yes, there is a Democrat in the mold of Humphrey, Kennedy and FDR I can get behind. All this happened when the talking heads were saying blacks would never get behind him with Clinton in the race let alone whites. You racist idiots have to realize he wasn’t the better black, he was the better candidate.
“The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.”
-Oliver Wendell Holmes
TVB, what if the bigot is blind?
Nitro, as in can’t see or won’t see? I have always been skeptical of people who claim they are not bigots. That’s a judgment call that I feel none of us are capable of making on ourselves. One of the proudest days of my life was when a Lakota friend told me he never sensed racism coming from me. I still try to be the person he saw in me, and I still never take for granted that I am successful…
Won’t see, TVB,
There are some right wing talk radio hosts, for example, who very quickly accuse others (usually African Americans) of being racist. These would be the “won’t see” because they use this as a way of winning arguments, nothing more. They don’t see it as bigotry.
They think that, by accusing others of being racist, they can be a little racist themselves, because they want people to think “at least I’m not as racist as people who disagree with me are”. That usually leads to these people being more racist than any of those they criticize.
Lots of logs in those eyes…..and no light.
I believe that Obama won the nomination DESPITE racism. (do you see how I did that?)
I KNOW that if Obama wins the general, it will be despite of Racism, and BECAUSE he is candidate with better judgment and policy positions, and that if McCain wins, it will be in part due to latent racism among the American electorate.
Yeah Lojasmo. I guess I’m in a mood for quotes tonight, here’s another:
“I was raised to believe that excellence is the best deterrent to racism or sexism. And that’s how I operate my life.”
-Oprah Winfrey
Oprah is one excellent lady. And Obama is one excellent man. Sleep well all…
There is no doubt that Obama is where he is because he is an effective candidate, period.
There is no doubt that Obama has done very, very well with black voters. But to take that fact and then imply that he is only where he is because of race, that is wrong. We’ve all seen him give speeches. He is a great orator. That has nothing to do with skin color.
McCain will pull some votes because he is a Veteran. Palin will pull some votes because she is a working mom. Biden will pull some votes because people like 35 years of experience. Every candidate has a different group that make their base. One of Obama’s bases is no doubt the black vote, but he is where he is because he is an effective candidate.
Now, if you want to rip on him for not having any real experience, go for it. That part is true.
“I KNOW that if Obama wins the general, it will be despite of Racism, and BECAUSE he is candidate with better judgment and policy positions, and that if McCain wins, it will be in part due to latent racism among the American electorate.”
C’mon, lojasmo. Are you telling me that my vote for McCain is done so with racial subcontext? I believe that the statement you made is as ignorant as the one Nitro made up above about Obama.
Dan like always I can agree with some of your post.
“ignorant as the one Nitro made up above about Obama”
What comment was that?
“McCain isn’t good at the talk show circuit. Public Servants and Celebrity Entertainers don’t mix very well.”
Oh puh-leeze! McCain (as well as Obama) has been all over talk television, including Rachel Ray. If you’re calling Obama a celebrity entertainer because of that, you have to call McCain one too. Personally, I think it sucks but apparently they feel they have to go on and banter with the hosts to be more likable. Because, God knows, you can’t look too smart on television.
Sorry, Nitro! I meant the Pretty Fly 4 a White Guy post, not yours.
My sincere apologies for mixing up those posts.
Thank you DantheMan
My apologies for offending anyone. I was stating what I thought was a fairly obvious…Palin and Obama were primarily, not exclusively, but primarily selected for their race/gender. Obviously people have taken this from a partisan perspective judging by the exhaustive posts defending Obama, but none defending Palin.
I think Palin’s selection is obvious, so I’ll just assume you all agree with me. Please look at the voting patterns in the Democratic primary. What primaries did Obama do best in? Compare them to racial composition of the state. There is…without a doubt.. a correlation. Please look at the counties he did best in. The higher the black population, the higher his percentage of the vote. Again..undisputable.
Again, my apologies. Not motivated by hate. Just providing my opinion. I’ll be quiet now.
Look, Obama won those famously black populated states of Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, Idaho, Montana… well the list goes on and on. The issue of race in the Democratic Primary was divisive but in the end was decisively not a big deal. You are simply wrong to even bring this up… he won because he was the best candidate. In some of the states he won there are not enough blacks to even hit a double digit per cent of the population, get real.
Every state you list is a caucus state. The list does not go on and on. The only reason he squeaked by in Missouri, was because Edwards was still in the race. He was selected for the same reason Palin was. Identity politics. I don’t see anyone disputing Palin’s selection was based on gender. Once again, people are blinded from facts by their loyality to their political party.
