Madia Has Momentum, Now is the Time to Contribute!

Ashwin Madia dominated Erik Paulsen in a televised debate yesterday. (Did you miss it?  Matt has a great post summarizing the key moment complete with video of the takedown.)  Now let’s keep his momentum going by contributing to his campaign.

John McCain is coming to Minnesota this week and the Madia campaign intends to mark the occasion by capitalizing on McCain’s most famous gaffe (so far).

At the end of this week, the Republican Presidential ticket will visit Blaine in an attempt to bring out their core conservative voters in Minnesota — and they’re coming right to our backyard. We know McCain, Palin and the rest of the Republican Party slate — including our opponent — are out of touch. In fact, McCain’s so out of touch he doesn’t even know how many houses he owns.

Let’s remind McCain how many houses he owns. Help us raise $1,000 for each house McCain owns.

This is a great opportunity to both tweak McCain and help Madia.  Don’t miss it. Contribute.

But…how much are we trying to raise? Is it $4k? Is it $7k? or…is it the more recent comments at $11k? Just a tad out of touch, no?

You all know I lean Republican and have not been supportive of Madia. His performance in the debates has been pretty good. He wins on topics like drug prices and Iraq. He loses on topics like healthcare and energy.

Madia uses that effective style that good Q&A students do… starting each answer with something like “I’ve been talking to people all over, and they are hurting”. Can kind of prelude always goes over well. It is easy enough and I’m surprised the others don’t do it.

The twist in this race is Dillon. They guy is legit, and he appeals to people in the center. And there are LOTS of people in the center. If he had the same big machine funding that Madia and Paulsen do, I think Dillon would be pulling 30% in this race.

Interesting point, DTM. I couldn’t vote for an independent, though, because I am voting for a representative to be an effective representative in Congress. I don’t see independents as effective with the two party system. They have to choose a party to caucus with - a caucus of 1 isn’t effective. Committee assignments come from the party in power and seniority usually determines the assignment. Again, being on the bottom - permanently - for assignments isn’t an effective representation for our district. While being in the middle may seem to be a winning location, it’s not effective in reality. Consequently, I could live with Ramstad while he was in office but his replacement has to be either Madia or Paulsen. I will vote, hands down, for Madia.

    Cheryl -

You raise an interesting point regarding our Congressperson having some pull in DC. But for the same logic, I wouldn’t vote for Madia even if he appealed to me. A vote for Madia is a vote for Pelosi to be Speaker. Although it is a slam-dunk that she will be the Speaker, I don’t like contributing to her prolonged reign over Congress.

Granted, Boehner would be no better. I long for the days of Newt. Love him or hate him, he used principle over politics while in that office.

You mean the newt who was having an adulterous affair while jumping all over Clinton’s balls re. Lewinski? That “principled” guy?

    Guffaw.

DtM: Can you provide any evidence that Madia supports Pelosi as speaker?

I would infer that Madia would vote for whoever the Dems put forward for speaker. I would also infer that they will nominate someone who is far to the left of the mainstream. I would also infer that Pelosi will be re-nominated since same-party Speaker turnover is rare. So no, no evidence. Only inference. Rather strong inference, if you ask me.

dtm….this isn’t Jesse that’s running with two guys who have tons of negatives. Dillon is a total unknown, and he certainly could raise more money if he worked harder at it. Madia made a choice to quit his job last October and devote his entire life to this race, and he has not disappointed anyone who believes in him. You have never met anyone who works harder than him, or is more dedicated to doing what needs to be done….and he never misses a day calling to try and raise money, he doesn’t like to do it, but it’s part of the game you have to play to be considered a serious contender. Remember Paulsen already had money in the bank and didn’t have to spend anything in an endorsement contest, while Madia didn’t get much party support until after getting endorsed in late April, and he has outraised Paulsen since then and cut into his cash on hand lead substantially. If Madia had chosen, he probably could have had the Independent Party endorsement too!

I agree with everything you said, except that I don’t believe Dillon is not working hard, and insofar as Dillon is a “total unknown” so is Madia. I see very little difference between the two in terms of how well we really know them. In fact, I think the edge goes to Dillon since he has built a career and reputation dealing with people year after year right here in the 3rd.

It is easy to spend a year telling people how you want them to think about you. It is hard spending 30 years developing a stellar reputation through your actions.
