Contrast the reactions of Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain to news that the House had rejected the bailout bill:
First, Obama:
Senator Barack Obama implored Americans and the financial markets to “stay calm” after the $700 billion rescue plan failed in the House on Monday, and he urged Democrats and Republicans to reach agreement on a package to stabilize the nation’s financial system.
“One of the messages I have to Congress is, ‘Get this done,’ ” Mr. Obama said, speaking at a rally here less than an hour after the financial legislation was rejected by the House of Representatives. “Democrats, Republicans step up to the plate and get this done.”
McCain, by contrast ignored reporters questions on the subject and his campaign put out a statement under the name of economic advisor Holtz-Eakin (the same guy who claimed McCain invented the Blackberry) blaming Obama:
“This bill failed because Barack Obama and the Democrats put politics ahead of country.” –McCain-Palin senior policy adviser Doug Holtz-Eakin
Bottom line: Obama acted like a President today and McCain acted like a desperate politician.

Let me get this straight-two friggin thirds of the Republicans voted against this bill, but the democrats are to blame? They truly are delusional!
Barney Frank:“We don’t believe they had the votes and I think they are covering up the embarrassment of not having the votes. But think about this: somebody hurt my feelings so I will punish the country. I mean that’s hardly plausible. And there were twelve Republicans who were ready to stand up for the economic interest of America but not if anybody insulted them. I’ll make an offer: Give me those twelve people’s names and I will go talk uncharacteristically nicely to them and tell them what wonderful people they are, and maybe they’ll now think about the country.”
That makes McCain look more like a child throwing a tantrum.
Not much of leader if you can’t get your Party to follow you… even after the temper tantrum of last week. Maybe being a “Maverick” is not such a good thing when you pick and choose when you want to break with the pack only based on self-interest. Republicans deserve a candidate team like Palin/McCain.
McCain is a fucking child. DO. NOT. WANT. carrying the codes.
That is what a president looks like. This is what a partisan hack looks like.
McCain Claims Credit For Bailout Before It Failed

How mavericky of John McCain to take credit for the passage of the bailout bill…before it failed:
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and his top aides took credit for building a winning bailout coalition – hours before the vote failed and stocks tanked.
The rush to claim he had engineered a victory now looks like a strategic blunder that will prolong the McCain’s campaign’s difficulty in finding a winning message on the economy.
Shortly before the vote, McCain had bragged about his involvement and mocked Sen. Barack Obama for staying on the sidelines.
“I’ve never been afraid of stepping in to solve problems for the American people, and I’m not going to stop now,” McCain told a rally in Columbus, Ohio. “Senator Obama took a very different approach to the crisis our country faced. At first he didn’t want to get involved. Then he was monitoring the situation.”
McCain, grinning, flashed a sarcastic thumbs-up.
“That’s not leadership. That’s watching from the sidelines,” he added to cheers and applause.
What happened today was more than a “strategic blunder,” it was a massive failure of leadership on the part of John McCain.
And let’s give McCain’s quote, made on the campaign trail, a little more context:
I am a Teddy Roosevelt Republican. I believe our leaders belong “in the Arena”, in the arena, when our country faces a challenge, not on the road in a campaign. I’ve never been afraid of stepping in to solve problems for the American people, and I’m not going to stop now.
Speaking of stepping in it…
Took that off the DailyKos…
What a Maroon! Amuse, I agree. The Neocons deserve McCain Palin after the last 8 years!
OK …. I really like the irony of Barney Frank basically calling the Republican’s a bunch of pansie’s.
Excuse me, but 12 Democrats on Barney Frank’s own committee voted against the bailout bill. If Barney Frank wrote a book I believe the title should be, “The Audacity of Audacity.”
I believe…”
You are indeed a true “bliever”, Chris.
And everything you believe is a direct result of the koolaid you drank.
Here in the reality based community, on terra firma, you’re recognized by the blather you post.
Two Putt,
The reality is that Frank’s own Democrat committee members voted against the bailout. Watch the koolaid comments, or your post might get zapped again. Why can’t you argue facts or ideas Tommy?
The facts are that this was a Bush Proposal, whom - in case you’ve forgotten - is a GOPer. And the Democrats looked at the problem, knowing that Bush has, shall we say, a wee bit of a credibility problem.
But they looked anyway, and a majority of ‘em decided to vote with the President anyway, even knowing how toxic Boy Blunder is.
On the other hand, Boehner and Blunt seized on this opportunity to put some distance between their vulnerable GOPers and Boy Blunder, because they know how toxic Boy Blunder is.
There was a whole bunch of politics being played with this, on BOTH sides of the aisle.
And Barney Frank was correct; any wuss that changed a vote because Pelosi mouthed off was a wuss that put their own fragile ego over their conscience.
TPT - yeah Frank nailed it. Chris, with all your energy and misinformation, I think you should go do some cold calling for your much beloved Palin ticket. She will, afterall, make a fantastic president when McCain kicks the bucket.
Zach,
Frank nailed what? He was one of the lead negotiators on the bill and 12 of his own Democrat committee members voted against the bill that he helped craft. I’d like to see you argue those facts.
Look at the troll Chris repeating talking points.
Is that all you’ve got?
Pretty pathetic after 8 years of the George W. Bush economy.
Thank God for the override 12! If Ms. Kelliher (sp) was in charge instead of Ms. Pelosi there would have been no defections and the Democrats could have claimed victory. Oh, and Walz sides with Bachman again…
LOL at tom a. Walz is a thoughtful moderate. Bachman is an ignorant dipshit.
poor Chris, I am not gonna hold your hand through this. I hear a fart noise and a toilet flushing when I read your nonsensical posts. Did you listen to what Frank was talking about in the clip? He wasn’t talking about the 12 Democrats, he was talking about the coward Republicans! And all Republicans are cowards at this point. I would say voting for McCain Palin would be an enormous act of cowardice. Like chickenhawk Bush Cheney avoiding Vietnam enormous. So what’s to argue? Your sidepoint which has nothing to do with this discussion?, though it was a typical GOP subject change tactic. Maybe there is a post at MDE where we can take up your argument? This ain’t the one. Vote Palin McCain Chris, yeah! Brainy! Sorry MNPublius, you can delete this post if you want. It’s hard not to take potshots at proven wrong hypocrite phonies. I hold back every single day.
