Michael Brodkorb has a post up touting interest in the McCain/Palin rally this Friday. This should come as no surprise to anyone watching the presidential race closely. The McCain campaign and the Republican party have been crowing about the large crowds Palin has attracted ever since she was named McCain’s running mate. Lately, however, reports have trickled out that the McCain campaign has been less than honest about the size of the crowds at their events. Here is an excerpt from a Bloomberg article:
McCain aide Kimmie Lipscomb told reporters on Sept. 10 that an outdoor rally in Fairfax City, Virginia, drew 23,000 people, attributing the crowd estimate to a fire marshal.
Fairfax City Fire Marshal Andrew Wilson said his office did not supply that number to the campaign and could not confirm it. Wilson, in an interview, said the fire department does not monitor attendance at outdoor events.
In recent days, journalists attending the rallies have been raising questions about the crowd estimates with the campaign. In a story on Sept. 11 about Palin’s attraction for some Virginia women voters, Washington Post reporter Marc Fisher estimated the crowd to be 8,000, not the 23,000 cited by the campaign.
The McCain campaign lied about the size of the rally and they lied about where they got their count. I hope the local media will not take the Republican Party or the McCain campaign at their word when reporting about the crowd size or interest in the the McCain/Palin rally in Minnesota this week. They have proven that they cannot be trusted.

Why would they tell the truth? Lies are the plan.
Of course they can’t be trusted to tell the truth.
McCain had better bring his draw though: the woman from Alaska.
Because its the unrequited schoolmarm crush that draws the attention. He just introduces her.
When he goes it alone, he bores people. Not many come out to see him: Not exactly the “alpha male” material any more.
Though why would people here want to go see a 44 year old mother of 5. They’re all over the place.
Possibly smarter than ol’ Sarah.
I got an invite to a fundraiser at an undiclosed location in Minneapolis for a luncheon fundraiser with Palin - on Monday September 22.
Anyone know where this fundraiser is located? Minneapolis is pretty generic.
That should be hilarious. Make sure you take you counter, Eva!
Otherwise we’ll hear again that Caribou Barbie drew 23,000, when estimates are closer to 8,000.
Dropped 1o points in 3 days, says its gone lame & the lies are getting caught.
Her water broke. Now she’s just trying to ride it home!!!
That “undisclosed location”:
They aren’t expecting you to drive there blindforlded?
If its an undisclosed location - somebody look for man-sized safes!
Ever wonder what they serve at those events where Bush flies into town, etc
for double secret, exclusive big donor fundraisers?
Eva, take a picture of the cuisine.
I’m sure it’s going to be more than cheese whiz on a ritz cracker.
And perhaps a picture of the crowd, so we know how big it REALLY was.
