I can say unequivocally that I will support Barack Obama’s plan. But John McCain’s health care policy would be a disaster for Americans. It would leave Minnesotans with worse health care than they have now by letting insurance companies run amok, instituting a new tax on health benefits, and potentially causing 580,000 Minnesotans to lose their insurance. Minnesotans deserve to know if Norm Coleman would stand up to this disastrous scheme in the event McCain becomes President.
A very savvy question as well as an important one. So where does Coleman stand? They won’t say:
It’s an obvious question, given that Democratic candidate Al Franken spent the day praising Barack Obama’s plan and even sent out a press release asking “With McCain’s Health Care Plan Coming Under Scrutiny, Franken Asks: Would Norm Coleman Vote For It?.”
Coleman spokesperson Luke Friedrich won’t say. Four times. Turning routine tit-for-tat into something more damaging for Coleman.
Sad for Team Coleman that this embarrassment is at the national level. My favorite part:
Well Senator Coleman is aligned with Senator Coleman’s plan and I think that’s the point that I want to make here.
So again, does that mean he’ll support McCain’s plan or not?
UPDATE: Talking Points Memo chimes in. Not a great week already for Coleman. Even nationally.
UPDATE: Think Progress, Minnesota Independent

Not only does McCain, if elected President, plan to tax Employer Provided Health Care plans as earned income , he plans massive cuts to Medicare and Medicade of $1.3 TRILLION dollars over 10 years to pay for the $5,000 Tax Credit for families. That was what Sarah Palin referred to “budget friendly” proposal. Like that will go over well with Seniors in the US.
Norm Coleman is an idiot to want to support this scheme. There’s nothing budget friendly about Mccain’s plan at all.
