Klobuchar On Hardball

A funny thing happened on MSNBC’s “Hardball” today: a female Minnesota politician went on the show and she didn’t call for a return to the 1950’s.

How refreshing.

Klobuchar called the Bachmann’s comments “a political earthquake” and said that “people were really outraged by what she said.”

Amy also referenced Colin Powell’s condemnation of Bachmann and touted El Tinklenberg, the DFL candidate in the 6th.

  • “Amy also referenced Colin Powell’s condemnation of Bachmann and touted El Tinklenberg, the DFL candidate in the 6th.”

Please. Amy referred to Colin . . .

Reference is not a verb. That is all.

  • Klobuchar is a great politician. She will hold this office for many years.

Safe, cautious, sticks her neck out when it is safe to do so. She is a fast follower.

That kind of temperment is great for a Senator.

  • “Reference is not a verb”

    Reference (v.) -
    1. to furnish (a book, dissertation, etc.) with references: Each new volume is thoroughly referenced.
    2. to arrange (notes, data, etc.) for easy reference: Statistical data is referenced in the glossary.
    3. to refer to: to reference a file.

Beauty school drop out, go back to high school.

  • Reference can absolutely be a verb. Dictionary.com has my back if you still disagree:

  • I just noticed a very comedic thing. The ACG PAC has a Norm! ad up on the top of the page. I wonder if they know that the money is being used to fund (In Michelle Bachmann’s words) leftist, liberal, anti-American activity. I sure hope they are paying a bundle for the prime placement.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Amy was great this morning at the Madia presser. She is very well spoken, thoughtful and down home funny.

A politician Minnesota can be proud of!

  • Okay,

Maybe a little off topic but I was just watching the clip (on the Daily Show) where the McCain-Palin campaign spokesperson (Nancy Pf-whatever) went on her rant regarding N. Virginia not being real America and that real America can be found in the southern part of Virginia. I had heard about this last week. I did not realize that part of her rant included the fact that McCain’s message is resonating on the Iron Range of Minnesota. Hello? What planet is she on. I had heard they were making a serious play for this area with the whole NRA/Guns message but they (the Repubs) do this every 4 years and it never pans out. I don’t think it is working this year either. In fact, I feel like many people, especially younger people, are a little more fired up this year than in the past. I know people who are volunteering and putting signs (yes, I know signs don’t vote) in their yard who never would have in the past. Not buying it Nancy Pf-whatever.

  • Doubters. Ask someone whether a thing is referred to in a document, e.g., is it mentioned? Pretty straightforward.

Now, ask someone whether a thing is referenced in a document. A more ambiguous question and perhaps permitting a more slippery answer. It all follows from the word reference, a thing, being used to describe a relationship between two things. With the word refer, all you have to do is look on the document, a paralegal’s task, Referencing requires the questioner and his audience to interpret the scope of “reference.’ Not a good thing in interrogatory practice, or in a deposition question, either. You’ll see.

  • Not that I really care, but I use reference as a verb all the time when asking deposition questions and drafting discovery.

  • Amy Klobuchar is always fun to see on TV. She cuts to the quick.
That “political earthquake” is spot on. She has a bit of her dad’s facility with description.

Its a nice stark contrast to the whack job that Michelle Bachmann is & shows that we are not all
Michelle Bachmanns in this state: harried chicken littles running to & fro, simply overwhelmed by life itself!!!!!!

What the hell are some of you guys going on about?
There’s a goofball in the white house who has no familiarity with the English language.
You have a presidential candidate who likewise has some verbal challenges now & again, running with a totally challenged running mate!
And you are going to get bent over a small quibble over the word “reference?”

In the meantime, don’t know why the right wing partisans come here to whine on with some nonsense talking point as though its going to waste our time at great length. Save it for your press conference dantheman!

  • What, Mockingbird?

I gave Klobuchar props. She is a great politician. That is a compliment.

Can’t I come here and comment? I thought this was the supposed big tent party.

  • From a blog by a New Hampshire-ite called Caveat Canem Croceum, it seems our Amy may be working on a national level soon. That would be great if our senior Senator could have a larger role in the Democratic Party. She might be the one to give Minnesota, the State of VPs, a President.

“On Saturday, Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota came in to fire up the troops and address the “Women for Obama” group at a pancake brunch. Dawg was somewhat apprehensive as the only non-female in the room, thinking he wouldn’t be allowed to gobble those scrumptious blueberry Kibbles ‘n Bits. But he was welcomed with head pats and chin tickles. Sen. Klobuchar was extremely impressive, laying out the Democratic message succinctly, outlining position and policy differences with the Republicans and answering questions forthrightly. Hard to believe she’s from the same state, let alone the same planet as Michelle Bachmann.”

  • Better sound quality for Klobuchar on this clip:

Chris Matthews is just yukking it up, there. Listen to him snicker!
