Madia Grabs Lead in New Poll

The DCCC just released a poll of the 3rd District:

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee today released a Bennett Petts & Normington survey of 400 likely voters in Minnesota’s third Congressional district found Iraq war veteran Ashwin Madia with a solid lead over Republican politician Erik Paulsen. The head to head shows Madia with 44 percent of the vote to Paulsen’s 39 percent, while Independence candidate David Dillon takes 8 percent — 9 percent remain undecided. The survey was conducted September 29 - 30 and has a 4.9 percent margin of error.

Madia’s lead, obviously, is within the margin of error, but the result is encouraging none the less. It means the Republican tactics of September (smear, smear, play the race card and then smear some more) have not worked.

No wonder Paulsen is getting desperate.

That’s fantastic! As you noted, this is still a tie, but great to see it leaning in Madia’s favor.

As I read it, it sounds like he’s .1% outside the margin of error. Still basically nothing, but good news nonetheless… :)

Paulsen thought he didn’t have to work very hard, and has found out different! The fact that a candidate new to the political scene can out fundraise and out maneuver a long time career politician, former majority and party leader, says volumes about Ashwin Madia and his campaign.

Paulsen sounded like he’s given up on WCCO yesterday. I also heard that the NRCC pulled all of their ads yesterday. If the NRCC has given up on this race, it’s over.

Congressman Ashwin Madia. Has a nice ring to it!

The DCCC would like to announce that Democrat firm Bennett Petts & Normington have conducted a poll in which they give the lead to a Democrat, wow, alert the news media, this is breaking news!

Up here in the north niche of the district we take for granted that this newcomer can compete and win.
The positive issue oriented campaign theme is what Minnesotans expect and deserve.
Keep pushing right up till election day in the south and west of CD3.
Don’t let Paulson up for air!

I say a candidate who is new to politics and running against someone who has been a state representative for what - 14 years!!?? - and is leading in any poll is running one heck of a campaign!

Looks a lot like MDE crowing when the StarTrib puts Coleman on top….i.e., Stanley Hubbard’s personal rag. Whatever.

    This is truly great news!

It was SurveyUSA, but same concept. SurveyUSA has McCain up in every single battleground state according to RCP. They are the same outfit that claims the 10 point Coleman lead. Do they even try to seem unbiased?

Wish I was in Madia’s district. His insistence that we balance the budget and reduce the national debt is music to my ears. Not sure that Pelosi will go for it with the recent adition of $700,000,000.00 to the deficit this year, but that will be blamed on Bush anyway since he’s the President…
