Madia released a disciplined statement:
I am proud to have served in the Marines and in Iraq. Once a Marine, always a Marine, and I am proud, and will always be proud, to stand by my fellow Marines. Through my service in the Marines, I learned team work and discipline. We need more of that in Congress. I am talking about those needs in my new ad and on the campaign trail. In these challenging times, Minnesotans are looking for leadership and vision from the people they send to Washington – the leadership and vision necessary to get our country back on track. I will continue to communicate my positive message of change to the people of the Third District.
Paulsen also seems to have zero problem putting people in uniform even on the front page of his website:
These people are shameless. Sure, Paulsen is desperate but it’s an especially bad move for John Kline by agreeing to step into this mess.
UPDATE: John Kline’s hypocrisy on this subject is a lot bigger than I thought.

Aaron: You’re a liar…as I wrote numerous times on my blog regarding this post, I respect Madia’s service to our country, but Congressman Kline makes a good point.
Where is the evidence that Kline was asked to do this. I spoke with Kline personally this evening, and he’s doing this on his own merit.
Aaron doesn’t have any evidence…he just makes things up. I respect Madia’s service to our country, but Congressman Kline makes a good point.

Kline makes no point at all, other than he’s out of touch just like Paulsen. This positive ad (another one for Madia, unlike Paulsen) merely uses the example of teamwork and discipline that the Marines show and suggests that we need more of that in Congress…these are atributes that Ashwin Madia has shown for the past 11 1/2 months on the campaign trail and will bring to Washington come January, 2009. Paulsen will stop at nothing and employ anybody he can to try and impugn Madia, but it won’t work….we haven’t seen a candidate this extrordinary in my lifetime and he’ll make people ask themselves “what was it that we thought was so good about Ramstad?”. Madia will continue to engage the voters with his positive campaign centered on the issues that are important to all of us, and we’ll leave the gutter and “hide and seek” to Erik Paulsen.
Brodkorb seems obsessed with getting people to talk about anything other than his financially affiliated Republican friend, Erik Paulsen. Strange. You think someone would want to talk about their candidate rather than distractions like this.
It seems to bother Kline and Brodkorb that someone can be patriotic, serve our country proudly, AND be a Democrat running for the 3rd Congressional District seat.
Go Ashwin Go!
Michael,
Seriously, how does it feel to be a beneficiary of white privileged, connected affirmative action? Seriously, you failed terribly with Kennedy, and that secured your next Republican job. In all seriousness, what is it with failure and job security in the Republican party?
Thanks,
Alec
Evidently only republicans who serve are good Americans and can tell us about their experience. Shame on them!! Kline should apologize for HIS ads, and Michael Brodkorb should go and enlist for a few years so he will understand what he so glibly bashes.
I have yet to see anything from Paulsen about how he plans to make my life better. Cute little girls and cabins without bathrooms won’t cut it in these economic times.
Win Ashwin Win!
If there’s anyone that shouldn’t be demanding an apology, it’s John Kline.
What John Kline did with a letter sent by the Paralyzed Veterans of America is simply shameless.
And he never apologized.
Kline is a hypocrite of the worst order.
Kline is Michelle Bachman without the dress and a little sneakier. But then you get who you elect and if that particular part of Minnesota wants to re-elect a Texas carpetbagger… let them. Any Congressman who votes for the other Republican guy’s Pork consistently but refuses to even get sensible money for his District should be shown the door… but then Kline seems to have the District buffaloed.
Paulsen will lose and then Target may find him less than helpful in the new economic reality created by Republicans like him. We can only hope… outstate sure does make some doozy decisions for their Congress-critters. Makes you wonder how they got Tim Walz right.
Nice to see amuseinc is consistent is demonstrating what a bigot he (or she) is. First it was people that disagree with him on any issue. Now it is anybody who doesn’t live in the metro area.
If Democrats want any respect they should probably start by cleaning up their own act and calling out people when they make the kinds of statements amuseinc consistently makes. Republicans failed to do it with the bigots of all stripes that support their party and it rightfully cost them.
Mr. Hat it isn’t geography, it is the inanity of John Kline representing anyone. You sure are quick to accuse others of being a bigot against well anything that seeps into your head. Your point is laughable…
If I was Kline, I’d worry about my own election campaign. Even though Saari hasn’t raised nearly the money that Kline has, he is an extremely credible candidate and will do a great job for his district, and if the coattails of Barack Obama do the right thing, Kline may just be looking for work, too!
If your point wasn’t to belittle people based on geography why did you type something that belittles a group based on where in the state they live?
“outstate sure does make some doozy decisions for their Congress-critters. Makes you wonder how they got Tim Walz right.”
Seems fairly obvious. I doubt if you had meant “it is the inanity of John Kline representing anyone.” the term “outstate” would have appeared of it’s own accord. Of course I am open to the idea that you simply a completely incompetent communicator. Your bigotry is so obvious that it doesn’t have to seep into anything. It jumps up, shouts and demands that it be recognized as proof of your partisan loyalty.
