Norm Coleman’s Buddy Ted Stevens Convicted On All Seven Charges

Today, Norm Coleman’s Senate Buddy, Ted Stevens, was “convicted on all seven charges of making false statements on Senate financial documents about gifts he received from contractor Bill Allen, oil services company VECO Corp., and others.”

Note that Norm Coleman still hasn’t returned the money he got from the indicted VECO executives that are involved with this case. Norm Coleman was a “Special Guest” at Ted Stevens’ “Kenai River Classic” for three years so he could hobnob with these very same oil executives. It is no surprise that Coleman has been trying to avoid saying anything about this even though he and Stevens were close companions in the Senate. Not good news today for Norm Coleman.

In other news the Pioneer Press and Minneapolis Star Tribune endorse Ted Stevens for Senator of Alaska based on his fiscal prowess in inexpensively getting his house rebuilt. Both editorial boards were also impressed with his ability to work in a bi-partisan manner to get more bribes and payola than Minnesota Hobo Senator Norm Coleman.

Yet another reason why we need reformers in Washington.

    DtM,
Exactly, and a VP that has already been found to abuse their power by a panel with Republicans in majority would be more of the same. Both sides are corrupt at times, but the REpublicans take it to a new level from top down.

    Interesting take,

But I think that a Chicago politician who navigated dutifully and loyally through the Chicago power broker structure, combined with a VP who has been in office since…. since… since Ayers bombed the Pentagon (according to Ayers book, he helped bomb the Pentagan in 1972, the same year Biden won election). To me, that is actually more of the same.

Seems like such a subtle difference…..

    DtM - Coleman isn’t a “reformer”; Coleman’s the PROBLEM.

I think DtM was going the circuitous Alaska route.

Palin supported the bridge, and was closely tied to Stevens, so she’s a “reformer.”

    Yeah. That must be it.

    “Closely Tied”, lojasmo?

Palin became governor by taking on, not playing with, the Alaska GOP political establishment that Stevens is the grand daddy of. She encouraged new blood to run in primaries against them. She beat GOP insiders in her own primary.

She came out against Stevens back when she was just a little old Governor and had no national identity.

Is that being “closely tied to” someone?

In interviews and a review of records, the AP found:

_Instead of creating a process that would attract many potential builders, Palin slanted the terms away from an important group — the global energy giants that own the rights to the gas.

_Despite promises and legal guidance not to talk directly with potential bidders, Palin had meetings or phone calls with nearly every major candidate, including TransCanada.

_The leader of Palin’s pipeline team had been a partner at a lobbying firm where she worked on behalf of a TransCanada subsidiary. Also, that woman’s former business partner at the lobbying firm was TransCanada’s lead private lobbyist on the pipeline deal, interacting with legislators in the weeks before the vote to grant TransCanada the contract. Plus, a former TransCanada executive served as an outside consultant to Palin’s pipeline team.

Palin is not a reformer, she’s a political opportunist that saw an opening with the uber corrupt Stevens machine.

DantheMan: skilled in the craft of lying and peddling Republican talking points. “Closely tied” is the relationship between your lips and Norm Coleman’s asshole.

Palin a reformer? My god you are a clown. There are few people as corrupt as Palin is even in Washington or Chicago. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her follow Stevens to the pokey.

“I think that a Chicago politician who navigated dutifully and loyally through the Chicago power broker structure,”

Just what exactly are you implying??

  12. 12 12 DantheMan

    Implying? Nothing.

I’m saying, however, that Barack Obama had to be loyal to the Chicago political machine in order for the kingmakers of that corrupt system to vault him to the next level in politics.

The historical figure that Obama reminds me of the most is Machiavelli. He is incredibly skilled at figuring out how to get power. He knew that he needed to get the support of the Chicago political machine. He knew that by voting “present” many times in the legislature, he would have less to defend than if he would have taken stands on issues. The man is smart. Pure Machiavelli.

McCain and Palin, on the other hand, are just a couple naive Americans who decided to run for office and try to do the right thing.

    Quite a contrast, no doubt.

    DtM,
It doesn’t bother you that she was found to be abusive of her power, not by some partisan witch hunt, but by a group that was majority Republicans?

Also, Palin represents the same white, connected affirmative action cronyism that has led Bush to put so many incompetent people in important positions. The strength of Obama is he will surround himself with competence, much like Regan did. Palin appointed a High School pal to be the state’s agriculture secretary. That friend’s qualifications? She said she thought cows were neat.

So, Palin abuses her power and appoints incompetent people at the expense of the country. Sounds like Bush/Cheney redux.

    LAter,
    Alec

“one frequently cited example of Palin’s crony-based appointments is her elevation of a high school classmate to the $95,000-a-year post heading the State Division of Agriculture. Palin defended that appointment citing this real estate agent’s childhood love of cows. ”

  14. 14 14 DantheMan

    Alec -

I can’t rebut that. Since Obama has never been in an Executive position and has never appointed people in a public service capacity, I have no comeback.

I guess we’ll find out in 2009 what his approach to leading a Government is. Should be a fun learning experience for all!

Yeah, it would be a real bitch to have someone smart in the White House, wouldn’t it.
