This time, it is about a campaign ad Franken that illustrated how corrupt Norm Coleman is. In the press conference, Mark Drake disputed that Coleman wasn’t the 4th corrupt Senator with CREW. He sited that Coleman only earned a “dishonorable mention” and is not in the “top 20.” Well, let’s take a look at that list:
Now count how many SENATORS you see on that list. Who ranks 4th? The ad is legit. Nice try, Team Coleman.
The other claim is that he is “living almost rent-free in a Million dollar home.” Well, I do not dispute that it could be a subjective statement. But, if you were renting a room shared with an office of FLS Connect and paying only $600 a month where you could trade rent for furniture and have no problem paying late all while getting free utilities… everyone I know in Washington absolutely considers that “almost rent-free.”
Team Coleman did not dispute other parts of the ad, such as his corruption with big oil and his 52 free trips paid for by special interests.
The best part, is that they are filing it today where it is almost impossible that any action could be taken before the election… my guess is because they know if a conclusion came before the election it would backfire.
A fun but desperate stunt.
UPDATE: MinnPost has more, including video from The UpTake.
UPDATE: Huffington Post has more analysis of this situation.

Senators, Representatives, pshaw. Every-day Minnesotans don’t care about that. Judges and lawyers probably will, though.
That’s some fine company he’s keeping on the list.
What is the upside for Coleman here? It makes him look like a whiner.
So, Norm’s main argument is that he is only kind of corrupt? Umm, isn’t that dumb?
By all means Normy, draw attention to your CREW ranking! LOL!
More great campaign advice from Michael “Little Rove” Brodkorb.
Seems foolish of Coleman to do this. The tracking polls have shown he’s going to win.
Trial Lawyers for Norm!
If Coleman loses the Huffington Post will have to cut staff. What ever will they write about?
Don’t worry DTM — there is lots of fodder with good old Libby Dole…or perhaps Ted Stevens will garner a few more lines of print.
I thought republicans were opposed to litigiousness.
Defamation of character??? Don’t you have to have a Character to Defame in the first place for that to even be possible?????
Why a lawsuit?
Same reason as negative advertising.
It works and it is remembered.
The lawsuit (and counter ad) against Franken’s aspersions are generating more visibility toward Coleman’s position, regardless of whether the original Franken hit piece was right or wrong.
Glad the Senator knows some lawyers.
Wonder if he knows any tax attorneys?
Might be an IRS issue too, if ‘Income’ was under reported. Wonder if Laurie redecorated the house?
Looked pretty nice in the TPT interview that Mary Lahammer did last night on Channel 2.
Wonder if those FBI guys that cleaned out Tom Petters house need a new project . . .
Jbenson-
Coleman’s whiny smarm is certainly not going to change the mind of democrats. Indies HATE this kind of stuff.
Lose/lose.
Maybe Norm wanted to be rated higher.
Aron:
I think you need to reread the list. This group didn’t even
put Coleman in the corrupt collumn. So Franken is lying! You’re lying!

Coleman wasn’t in the “Most corrupt member” list, he just got a “Dishonorable mention”.
Since there were only three Senators in the “Most corrupt member” list, [including Norm Coleman’s fishing buddy, (and Sarah Palin friend)
recently convicted Felon Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska], and Norm was the only Senator to receive a “Dishonorable mention”, I don’t believe
it’s a big stretch to think he’s the 4th most corrupt member of the Senate. Besides, recent events make it likely that if he was to win
re-election, he’d likely be moving up to the bigtime, one way or another.
