Star Tribune Poll: Franken 43, Coleman 34, Barkley 18

While a nine point lead for Franken is a bit of a jump, it does match the trending of every poll minus the recent KSTP poll. From the Star Tribune:

For Coleman, there is little good news in the poll. The number of voters who view him unfavorably continues to grow, the number who see him favorably is falling, and his job-approval rating has slipped to 38 percent — his lowest ever in the Minnesota Poll.

Coleman led Franken by four points in last month’s Minnesota Poll.

Also, the Star Tribune writes that “Coleman loser in bad ad competition”:

According to the poll, 56 percent of likely voters think that ads criticizing Franken are unfair. That’s compared with 42 percent of likely voters who scolded the Franken camp for unfair ads aimed at Coleman.

The bottom line? The poll shows that 45 percent of likely voters say the ads don’t make a difference to them, one way or the other. But 20 percent said the ads made them more likely to vote for Franken, while 12 percent said they were more likely to back Coleman.

An obvious outlier, but at least the internals make good sense, and the movement matches other polls.

Good news, on the aggregate. Looking forward to the DFL founders’ event today!

Considering how eager the DFL was to release a poll putting Franken at 36 it would be safe to say neither of Dean Barkleys opponents are able to crack 40% at this point, and with the encouraging poll results over the last few days Barkleys support is racing past 20%.

It’s fun to spin when you actually are able to believe yourself, you guys know what I’m talking about.

But it’s not spin when you’re saying he’s “racing past 20%?”

You are seeing the affect of the “Franken hates puppies” ads. It perfectly frames the silliness of the Coleman… should that be Kennedy campaign. The only difference between Coleman and that loser Kennedy is that Kennedy didn’t go as negative as early. The same stupid “pretend” Minnesotans, the same lame praise for nothing issues and bluntly the same Dallas Agency. Contrary to Rep. Kline, Texans don’t get us in the Star of the North. One viewing of Fargo does not a Minnesotan make.

And on other fronts Republicans are sucking across the board in this election cycle.

Wanna take a bet on which conservative “think tank” will hire Normy on Nov 5?

Or whether Norm will move to Hollywood to be closer to his “Wife”?

does anyone know if bill hillsman is doing Barkley’s media? or who else is doing it. A couple clever ads that get earned media and good debate performances could be all he needs to take this.

    His landlord?

The only trend here is that Franken increased 13% and amazingly, the sample of Democrats from the last Minnesota poll increased 13%, what do you expect to happen?

We’ll know which polls were accurate in a month, relax…

I just wish the dem that was pulling ahead in the senate race was someone I liked. At least when Franken wins I’ll see much less of his annoying persona on my TV. Maybe if he would promise to serve only one or two terms I could support him more enthusiastically.

I am like goldilocks as a canvaser in search of a just right race where I feel my efforts could help make a difference (Obama will win easily, Sarvi has little chance, my Franken support is too luke warm to be effective.) Any suggestions of competive a house race in south metro where more volunteer help is needed. I’d love to see house have enough dems to override a Pawlenty veto of better education funding.

Both of these candidates are embarrasing me. This campaign has gone into the toilet. I’m going to watch the debates and take a good, hard look at Barkley.

Vance Opperman completely nails it, here: http://www.tcbmag.com/ideasopinions/openletter/104618p1.aspx

We should have a decent idea of what is what when the next round of polling comes out. Looking forward to the debate tomorrow. Al was spectacular today.

  14. 14 14 Kerosene Hat

Thanks for the article DTM. If nothing else Barkley might act as a window into what is happening in the senate. It should be obvious at this point that neither Franken or Coleman has the ability to speak honestly about the issues.

  15. 15 15 Mockingbird

    Barkley sounds OK.
    He will not win, though.

A Jesse Ventura won’t be happening again. Barkley does not wrestle on TV.
A 3rd party guy doesn’t get much attention if elected. Though he could be a good addition to a Franken seat.

Normy is such a whiner. He’s telling us NOW what he should have done THEN.

And he drops other people’s names. But he can’t remake himself. He wants that position as head of the Republican propaganda dept
which he threw his hat into the ring for already, basically the director of the dirty tricks squad.

Why do they all aspire to be Karl Rove II?
