Why Hasn’t Norm Coleman Asked Jeff Larson To Cut It Out?

Betsy Sundquist has the story:

The telemarketing company responsible for making “robocalls” on presidential candidate John McCain’s behalf, accusing Barack Obama of being a “celebrity politician” who associates with “terrorists,” apparently is the Minnesota-based company owned by the CEO of the 2008 Republican National Convention host committee – and also Republican Sen. Norm Coleman’sWashington, D.C., landlord.

Shoff said he spoke to a supervisor/”team leader” for about 20 minutes, asking directly who was paying for the call. “They said it was FLS-Connect on behalf of the McCain-Palin ticket,” Shoff said, adding that the caller mispronounced “Palin” with a short A. “I corrected them,” he added.

Shoff was told that the team leader worked for a company in Brooklyn, N.Y., called King TeleServices, and that King was working under contract to FLS-Connect.

On WCCO Sunday Morning with Esme Murphy, Norm Coleman again declared the end to negative ads and negative phone calls:

COLEMAN: I think this plays into what I said about negative ads. To everyone. I think those ads should go, I think the calls should stop. I think on the Obama side, the negative ads should stop. Generally we have reached a point where I think folks know the candidates so lets hear what they are about, what’s their for. We are close to an election. So Esme maybe what I did last week if it could spread its way up the political totem pole if not down it would be a good thing. So I have expressed my concern, my objections to them to those and all the other negatives…

MURPHY: To Mr. Larson?

COLEMAN: To the company or whatever. I haven’t…

MURPHY: FLS.

COLEMAN: I haven’t talked to Jeff but clearly we have been very very clear that that’s not… we don’t need that in Minnesota today but it is across the board, you know?

If it is “across the board,” then why can’t Norm Coleman stop the coordination of negative campaigning with the NRSC and why can’t Norm Coleman ask his best political advisor Jeff Larson and FLS to cut it out, you know?
