I can’t believe its tomorrow…

After all this time, after 2 years of non-stop campaigning, after 4 years of speculation, and after 8 years of watching the country I love so much abused by those put in office to protect it, tomorrow we get to turn the page. I know it seems like this is said about every election, but I have a feeling that this will be the most memorable and important election of my lifetime. No matter what the result is, tomorrow will begin new chapter in American history. I’m so excited that I don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep tonight.

  • Matt if you can’t sleep I am sure someone would love to have your help with midnight madness. Or perhaps some early morning visibility before voting? Eh, think about it….

I am with you though. From waiting to see what candidates announce, only to withdraw, Fred Thompson ride in to save the GOP and then got too tired, the endorsement battles for the house and senate and so much more. It has been a long campaign indeed.

Tomorrow night after say 11pm over drinks at the victory party, the 2010 campaign for Governor will begin. I bet we get official announcements by December for us political junkies to fiend over.

  • As the famous pontificator Joe Biden would say: “Mark my words,….”

I wonder what historians will say in 25 years?

    Which was worse for America:

    9/11 or 11/4?

  • Which was worse for America:

    9/11 or 11/4?

    11/2/2000

  • It is an exciting and hopefully not to nerve wracking day.
After 2000 and 2004 I have lost faith in our election process.
After Venture, Coleman, Bachmann, etc, I have lost faith in Minnesota voters.

Here’s hoping I can find it again after today.

  • Gee jbenson2,
you are both an example and proof of why the gop is as popular as an std. may the best man win,

    off to the polls!

  • OBAMA 2008. (THANKS FOR ALL YOUR WRITING, MATT, AND TO ALL THE MNPUBLIUS TEAM: THANKS!)

  • Jbenson you are sick. You compare the worst attack on the U.S. to an election? The election results will be vindication on your thoughts and philosophy.
    Later,
     Alec

  • Matt -

We agree on at least one thing: We both love this country.

Regardless of what results today brings, I like the fact that voter participation is high, and I hope we have a clean election with a clear mandate for one candidate.

  • People get ready
    There’s a train a-comming
    You don’t need no baggage
    Just a-get on board
    All you need is faith
    To hear the deisel hummin’
You don’t need no ticket no no
    Just thank the Lord
    People get ready
    For the train to Jordon
    It’s picking up passengers
    From coast to coast
    Faith is the key
Open the doors and board on
    There’s room for all
    Amongst who love the most

It’s an awesome day to be an American!

  • Publius writers -
I don’t agree with much of what you write, but thank you for taking the time to offer your perspective. Regardless of the results tonight, lets all wake up tomorrow more unified as Americans. We all have our opinions, but I think most agree that the problems our country faces are too big for one political party to solve by itself.

In honor of that, it might be more appropriate to have a less partisian headline. It is a historical fact that Democrats have controlled the senate for almost 1/2 of those 8 years. If you choose not to change it, thats fine, it is your website - not mine.

Thanks again for what you do.

  • I just got to work downtown after voting near my home in Nordeast. I arrived at the polling place around 6:25 and by the time the doors opened at around 6:55 there were about 250 people in line behind me, 20 in front. Things moved quickly and I got out about 7:10. As I was biking to work I passed two other polling places and saw similar turnout.

Here is to hoping for a clean election and humility in our elected officials. No matter who is elected they should do their best to represent their entire constituency, not just those with who they agree. Something that I believe is the core difference between a good or bad elected official. A trait the current administration lacked almost completely.

  • A fair criticism and a good point Kerosene.

  • Too Cool. What is partisan about the headline?

  • Over 100 in line when the doors opened in Eden Prairie; a long line still outside the door when I got done voting.

    @ DtM - agreed.

And for the record - here in Eden Prairie, the race to fill Erik Paulsen’s seat in 42-B was hard fought and exceptionally clean - on BOTH sides.

I called the GOP candidate, Jenifer Loon, and congratulated her for running a fine race. No matter who wins in 42-B, BOTH candidates can hold their heads high for the high standards their campaigns set.

And I hope Jerry Pitzrick wins!!!

  • Drove my my polling place at 6:20. No one in line at all:( Wife and I voted yesterday because we are going to be out of precinct today. Line at Ramsey county election center was quite healthy. Took us about an hour. Minnesota sure does good elections. Each ballot placed at the central Ramsey County site will be hand delivered to its precinct and entered as if it was placed today! All votes count in Minnesota!
