Runners up, Sean Hannity and Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty. They are pushing this legend, fiction, lie about the Senate recount in Pawlenty’s state.
Said Hannity, “We have an issue of ballots showing up in a car somewhere and they are going to be counted? Where were these ballots before? So there are a lot of questions about, you know, behavior on the part of some.”
Said Governor Pawlenty, “Finding 32 ballots in the trunk of a car and supposedly forgetting that they were there is suspicious.”
You know what is suspicious Gov? When you push a Republican talking point that has now been denied by the Republican who made it up. Fritz Knaak, a lawyer representing the Norm Coleman campaign announced last Saturday that “we were actually told that ballots had been riding around in Minneapolis Director of Elections Cindy Reichert’s car for several days which raised all kinds of integrity questions.” Not only has Ms. Reichert denied that but Fritz Knaak said on Monday “it does not appear that there was any ballot tampering and that was our concern.” So you might want to drop this red herring since the Republican who dug it up has now denied it.
Snaaaaap.

Here’s the sickest lie of the recount to date: Team Franken was lying about a stroke victim’s ballot being rejected because of her signature; http://tinyurl.com/6e9ptw
I wonder how many downticket races would have turned out differently if there was a manual count, as it is now implied as the only way to accurately count. Even a 35 ballot swing would be the difference maker in many local races.
Hey guys, get a room.
When your governor goes on national news perpetuating a debunked lie in attempts to supress votes… sounds like it’s time for a new governor. Hope those who are looking to run against him remind the voters of his actions.
Lojasmo, F in hilarious. I think of DTM as Broadcorpse’s right brain alter ego. Anyways I am glad the NRSC seat will go to someone else. A great Kos diary in the rec list on all of these subjects. I see this recount as win/win personally. Norm is in big trouble even if he keeps his seat, maybe even more trouble. And Al looks better and better. If the money funneling case proves fatal for Norm “What bribe?” Coleman, maybe he can move up in the rankings on that corruption list. He certainly deserves it! He earned it, a true Bushie.
Wouldn’t the automatic recount law apply to very close local elections too? I seem to recall recounts in close races down ticket. I wish both sides (especially Norm) would drop the lawsuits and lies and let the election judges do their job. The final results will not be be 100% perfect, but will be more accurate than the initial machine count.
Are voters informed if their ballot won’t be counted? As there appears to be a small number of ballots found invalid and not in any particular district, the only challenges should come from a wrongly exluded voter who wants to fight it. Al looks no better than Norm with the misleading stroke victim story.
SMD: The difference is that team Franken is filing lawsuits to ALLOW ballots to be counted. Team Coleman is filing lawsuits to DiSallow votes from being counted.
Why is the stroke victim story “misleading”?

Pretty sneaky, putting your slimeball website in a tinyurl link. I almost besmirched my cache with your website. Not good.

Pure and simple - South Metro Dem doesn’t like Al and can’t get over the fact that JNP didn’t win the nomination.
The sound you will hear when Olby discusses the 84-year-old Beltrami county woman’s absentee ballot absurd and bogus claim by Franken: crickets chirping
Even NPR is attacking Franken’s damnable lies
Elias [Franken’s lawyer] told reporters a dramatic, but totally fabricated story about how the woman had suffered a stroke and her absentee ballot signature did not match the one on file with local election officials, which lead to her ballot’s disqualification. The county has confirmed that this despicable claim is 100% false.
Well, at least Franken has a job after his election farce. He could write a sequel called
Lies (And the Lying Liars Who Tell Them): A Fair and Balanced Look at Angry Al and his Lawyers
There are a total of four manual recounts
U.S. Senate, State Senate District 16, and State House Districts 16A and 12B
Only one is getting much press, obviously.
But the absurd and bogus claims being made by Coleman and the Republicans are OK Mr Benson? Coleman’s last minute frivolous (thrown out by the judge) lawsuit against Franken is just hunky dory? The Franken camp stood up and said they were wrong about this story. Have Coleman, Pawlenty or the rest of the Republicans admitted they are spewing BS about the recount?
JBenson is a right wing delusional troll. His opinions only resonate with the right wing’s shrinking base. JBenson is actaully helping that base shrink with every comment.
Just go to his “website” and see for yourself what this “adult” man is made of.
It’s a mother-lode of fodder.
Maybe when all this is over Norm can get another no-performance job at Winthrop & Weinstein. Or maybe there’s a place on the payroll of Tom Petters or Frank Vennes — oops, guess not, their assets are frozen. So maybe Norm can be National Sales Rep for Blo-and-Go.
I’ve heard there is an insurance company that will pay you $75,000 for doing nothing so long as you arrange somebody to send them the money. Maybe Norm could get into that?
Or he could change his pelt again and become a Democrat again. Of course this would entail a modicum of thought on his part… maybe thirty seconds of soul searching? (If he wins this thing he will wish he is a Democrat as being a powerless backbencher for the minority party isn’t gonna be fun.)
Here’s a little snipped from mr Benson’s blog. This should tell you his real character:
I wonder what historians will say in 25 years?
Which was worse for America:
9/11 or 11/4?
What a sad, pathetic man. He and Norm have a lot in common…

A story in morning strib has details on how Franken’s stroke victim story is inaccurate and why also how law specifies that rejected ballots are not included in the recount. I don’t know what a court would decide, but having some ballots excluded by election judges applying the rules on things like signatures seems fair to me. I just want to see this race ended soon with a better, if not perfect vote count. From Strib:
“But Beltrami County Auditor Kay Mack later questioned the campaign’s account, saying her office hadn’t rejected any ballots because of mismatched signatures. Mack said there was one instance of an 87-year-old woman in an assisted living center whose ballot was rejected because it bore no signature or mark. The law, Mack said, is “very clear” about not accepting such ballots.
“Secretary of State Mark Ritchie said Thursday that the state would not consider rejected absentee ballots as it begins the recount of the 2.9 million votes cast in last week’s election. “Recount law is very specific about what is included,” Ritchie said. “Under current law, those rejected ballots would be handled by a court.”
