Franken Leads, But More GOP Calls For Him To Quit

Great news from the Franken campaign:

Al Franken’s campaign attorney Marc Elias said today that, based on its latest internal tally, Franken has taken the lead over Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) for the first time in the recount process.

In a conference call, Elias said Franken leads Coleman by 22 votes at the end of last night’s count.

“We are ahead by 22 votes at the close of business at the end of last night,” Elias said. “We continue to believe we will gain votes during the challenge and review process, and feel good generally where we stand in the recount.”

But Sen. John Ensign thinks that now is the time for Franken to concede. Concede while he is winning? Republican attempts to torpedo Minnesota’s electoral process just get more and more absurd.

  • Can someone a whole lot more knowledgeable than me explain to me how the Franken internal count and the SOS’s count are so far off from each other? Does that Franken count include the challenged ballots or something?

  • Franken count includes the original counts modified by the recounts (lost balots, such as ramsey, etc) which does not yet included non-recounted precincts.

SoS count is a strict count of re-counted ballots.

  • Sos count is a strict count of re-counted ballots NOT including the challenged ballots. Franken’s internal count includes the challenged votes they know are valid and will end up being included when all is said and done.

  • Franken’s team dont know diddly..wishful thinking…stick a huge fork in the angry one

  • Its so nice of the GOP to call for Franken to quit.
If he pulls seriously ahead, I’m sure the calls will escalate.

  • I guess we should have called for Normy to quit when Franken was temporarily 22 votes up!
    Why is Norm so uncooperative?

  • I am a big opponent of Norm (which, I guess, technically makes me a Franken “supporter”) but I really wish Franken’s camp would give up on the whole “my internal count say I am up by 13.0000023846485950 votes” PR offensive. This is like coming out at halftime of a basketball game and telling the lovely Erin Andrews, “Yeah, we are down 8, but I really see us winning by 3 to 5 points.” If you win, you still look like a pompous jerk. You lose, you look like a fool.
