WCCO’s Esme Murphy: This Senate Race Should Be Behind Us

WCCO’s Esme Murphy gets into some all-caps territory:

The suggestion that this Senate race deserves a do-over is irritating to say the least. For the past four months — THAT’S FOUR MONTHS — good people, Republicans and Democrats, have struggled to get the recount right. In this legal phase the burden of proof has been on Coleman to prove mistakes were made. Where is the proof? After five weeks of testimony there is no smoking gun to show that Coleman was robbed.

Well said.

The question increasingly for Norm Coleman is what is this doing to his political future?

Well, at this point it is pretty safe to say that Norm Coleman’s political future is toast. If he cared about it, his contest to overturn the election results would have been over by now. The only thing he can do now is to drag this on as long as absolutely possible — at the expense of everyone else ready to begin the process of moving on.

  • “Well, at this point it is pretty safe to say that Norm Coleman’s political future is toast.”

Don’t underestimate the rejuvenating power of the RNC’s revisionist history and willful blindness.

I was just reading that David Vitter is making news by opposing family planning money in the omnibus. He was busted hiring prostitutes and is widely believed to have preferred wearing diapers during these liasons.

He’s still a senator, and may actually win re-election in 2010.

Heck, Nixon lived long enough to become an Elder Statesman.

So, nope. Not safe to say that about Norm.

  • Give Norm a Million Dollars to pay off
his dozen mortgages & let him go away.

  • Why are there so many hidden messages in the news coverage of the case?

I saw Kare 11 (Kupchela?) hype an upcoming report this morning. They were throwing teasers.
You should stay tuned for their upcoming report.

When the report came, it was barely seconds longer than the time wasted on teasers.
It didn’t say anything new. Quoted Franken. That he had won. If for some reason the thing went against him,
that Franken would not rule out an appeal.

Then the “reporter” sighed & said “it never ends.”

    Now isn’t that odd?
Norm is the one pushing for do-overs & has been driving for an appeal all along.
But the story was a reversal: as though FRANKEN is the one losing & seeking to remedy in appeal.
And the exasperation of the reporter puts it on the WINNER!

  • I want a do over for every race in the election if we have to redo the senate race. Gives us an opportunity to unseat Kline, Bachmann and well any Republican know-nothing presently representing us. Hell if the Senate race was “tainted” why are these other races over? I’d enjoy voting for President Obama twice in the same election.

  • “I’d enjoy voting for President Obama twice in the same election.”

    You probably already did.

  • I would enjoy voting for Ashwin Madia again.

Of course after the next census, I can’t wait to see the bloodbath between Kline, Bachman and Paulsen over the remaining congressional district.

Coleman and republicans like cman need to stop flinging insults and cries of cheating against the good people of Minnesota. Fact is, Coleman has not proven his case and every judgement has come down unanimously from a panel made up equally of dem, repub, and ind. Time to seat Senator Franken.

  • OMG, you said KLINE! That’s the ‘name we do not mention’ in this house. He’s horrible, and my representative. Feel my pain. His literature is ridiculous. Perhaps we should mention his name and help to get him unseated.

  • John Kline is the Stealth Congressman: he says little, does less, and hopes that name recognition combined with the appearance of a friendly grandfather will keep people from learned about his abysmal voting record and lack of accomplishments as a Congressman. He’s Michele Bachmann without the funny soundbytes.

  • Kline’s my congressman too. He sucks.

Did you see him last week on ‘Almanac’? The leadups to the show said they’d be asking him about his vote on the stimulus bill. Alas, it turned out to be a puff piece. Eskola asked him about it, but all he did was complain that Obama “didn’t reach out” to the repubs. Absurd. Eskola didn’t press him at all. What a pansy-ass.

  • Eskola is a walking puffball.

What’s the point of a re-vote? The criteria are not met.
Simply because Norm doesn’t like the outcome? Why does anyone think it would be different, if the numbers
in the Rasmussen poll are about even? (Flipped through the dial whie driving moments ago - and Mark Haney on AM 950
was saying the same thing. Good for him).

If 47% believe Franken won & 33% believe Norm won — - then why all this drummed up noise?
So what if Republicans want a re-vote? We have a winner. It will not be overturned on any grounds.

  • Actually Cman I was responsible for more than just two votes. I drove some elderly people to the polls on election day and worked hard during the campaign to make sure people registered and voted in my neighborhood. You have no idea how hard the DFL will work if this senate election of Al Franken is stolen via a revote. That revote would destroy the Republican Party in Minnesota as everyday Minnesotans will be reminded that because of Norm “Ego” Coleman millions of scarce tax dollars are being spent just have him lose twice. As is everyone I have talked to, including Republicans, is upset that the national Republican party is screwing with internal Minnesota elections. I spent 4 days volunteering my time during the recount sitting at a table with two Republicans, two election judges and another DFLer. The recount was spotlessly run, fair and transparent… now even Republicans are pissed that Coleman’s out of state lawyers have impugned our work. The fact is that we won’t see the bad effects on the Republican Party till next election, though fundraising right now might be tough for them.

    Working overtime today?

    I notice your completely detached from reality comments today at 8:17am, 10:12am, 11:10am, 12:47am, 2:19pm, 3:44pm, 4:14pm, 4:53pm, and 5:36pm.

Such a busy day of fallacious argument! I’m sure you are winning hearts and minds….or losing them.

I must say, you truly have a bad case of the vapors! Lordy Lordy! Get the smelling salts. Don’t tell me you actually believe those talking points your supposed to say?

  • Nitro — Thanks for tracking my posts today. I know that I’ve made an impression on you if you spent so much time on me. Thank you, thank you. It’s more of a hobby to stir up whacko liberals like yourself. I admit the same old talking points that you use for any post on any subject does tend to get a bit dry, but since you are have responded to so many of my posts, it has been a successful day. Oh, by the way, I’d really like one of those green Wellstone bumper stickers too. Please add 8:37 PM to the list. Thanks!

  • C “Man”,

    Thank you for providing entertainment value at 8:17am, 10:12am, 11:10am, 12:47am, 2:19pm, 3:44pm, 4:14pm, 4:53pm, and 5:36pm and 8:37pm.

    “whacko liberals like yourself.

Why am I wacko? Explain. Is it because I find you entertaining?

As far as everyone else you broad brush: like whom, for example? How many “wackos” comprimise whom don’t you like, C “Man”?

“I admit the same old talking points that you use for any post on any subject does tend to get a bit dry.”

What talking points do I repeat? Could you list them?

  • Nitro — You’ve tired me out and I’m off to rest and recharge my batteries. Anyway, I like to listen to the last hour of Michael Savage before I retire. ta-ta.

  • “Anyway, I like to listen to the last hour of Michael Savage before I retire.”

And in a nutshell we see how completely irrelevant the poster is… if Rush Limbaugh is the acting head of the Republican Party, Michael Savage is the infected pustule on it’s butt. Check out that guys personal history and you will find an amoral opportunist that would give Norm Coleman a run for his money.

  • I agree, Savage is very radical, kinda like Al Franken was on Air America.

  • Pete said: [Kline’s] Michele Bachmann without the funny soundbytes.

Yes, that is absolutely nothing funny about Kline. He’s major got-to-go. Let’s put out an all pts bulletin about taking this on. Sarvi needs our help if he runs again… is he running again? Who’s heard about Sarvi’s intent?

I missed Almanac… let’s see, I thought that was Friday (today)… I guess I missed last Sunday’s airing, too. Kline makes me want to vomit and so I feel almost happy about it. But I guess that kind of thinking has to end if I want to see change. Kline can be nailed to the wall by focusing on his record, alone, IMO.

Eskola has gone soft over the years, really. He used to have a little glint in his eye and it’s gone, now. Darn it. Don’t give up, Eskola. Why do you think I watch the show so much? Plus it’s fun that you and Kathy are married. I am a sucker for love. Erik’s scarves are cute, now that I’m thinking about it.

<i” “Savage is very radical, kinda like Al Franken was on Air America.”

    Prove it.

  • Sorry, my library of “favorite shows” doesn’t include Air America. Maybe you could pull one off your shelf.

  • So, C’Man,

    You stated.

“Savage is very radical, kinda like Al Franken was on Air America”

    Then you stated.

“Sorry, my library of “favorite shows” doesn’t include Air America. Maybe you could pull one off your shelf.”

    Typical.

So your a liar who says whatever you think will take down moonbats?

  • “So your a liar who says whatever you think will take down moonbats?”

Take out “liar” and replace with “smart guy” and your question would be correct.

  • C “Man”,

“Take out “liar” and replace with “smart guy” and your question would be correct.”

That is the perfect quote to sum up the week in right wing world. Thank you.

Your intelligence is as credible as any Republican these days.

  • “Your intelligence is as credible as any Republican these days.”

Since I happen to think many conservative voices out there at this time ARE the only credible voices out there, I thank you for that! Did you see Chavez is courting Obama to join his socialist movement. Too late, he’s already joined! Maybe Obama can invite all of his socialist dictators buddies in for one of his Wednesday night cocktail parties soon.

  • C “Man”

One should always choose a hobby that suits them.

You have chosen a hobby that suits your party well.

    Great Job!

  • argh! this is something i find so frustrating — -al franken is not radical nor partisan, and yet people like cman and dantheman keep saying that he is both. i am curious, do you really not know his work and are just assuming things about him to fit what you would like him to be, or have you just heard some of it and not understood it?

  • katzy,

” just assuming things about him to fit what you would like him to be”

See my comment #22, posted after C “Man” was asked to prove Al Frankens radio show was as radical as Michael Savages.

I only wish Savage would have run for office here in Minnesota. That would have been a reality check for the rabid trolls.

C “Man” only helps solidify growing stereotypes about the right wing base. You should thank him.

  • i guess it would just be nice for these people to admit, perhaps even just to themselves, that they don’t really know what they are talking about.

  • “i guess it would just be nice for these people to admit, perhaps even just to themselves, that they don’t really know what they are talking about.”

No argument here. If you can truly look in the mirror and say Franken is not partisan, then you should take the advice of your own post.

  • yes. i can. cman, are you very familiar with his political work? i would say the overall theme might be anti-partisanship. this is what makes me think you really don’t know his work. you just admitted that you didn’t listen to his radio show after you compared him to michael savage. so i’m pretty sure i know more about what i’m talking about in this case than you do.

  • I did listen to his radio show. 5 minutes was about all I could take. I’ll make a bet with you. If Franken wins the senate seat (an we hope he won’t), we’ll tally up his voting record and see how partisan he is. I’ll bet he votes 100% with the Democrats. By the way, when I refer to “we” above, I’m speaking for the other 42% who didn’t vote for Franken.

  • i think you might be misunderstanding what i’m saying. al franken is a democrat. and i’m obviously fine with that. when is he associated as being the left wing version of rush limbaugh, michael savage, a “bitter partisan,” i find that incredibly inaccurate.

can you tell me something in the five minutes of his radio show that makes you equate him with savage? when franken does his critique of right wing authors and talkers, he listens to them for hours and hours, reads their books, and then has researchers make sure every critique he gives of their work is accurate.

  • Franken is a partisan, but nowhere close to radical.

cman is an ignorant jackass, not worthy of engagement.

  • So eloquently put lojasmo. True class. Ya know, you guys are on top of the world aren’t you? Nothing can stop you now, huh? The dems will over reach just like the republicans did. Power is intoxicating and you guys are drunk now. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see won’t we. Please, no response. It’s “not worthy of engagement.”

  • Dittoheads sure are predictable, arrogant and boring.

  • And jackasses. Yes, the liberal elite are the higher form of human life. Just ask em.

  • i guess lojasmo and nitro are right, as per usual. will not engage him again :-)

  • I can tell that this is not the first time you mention this topic. Why have you chosen it again?
