VICTORY!
Congratulations Minnesota. You get what you elect. First a professional wrestler, now an unfunny comedian.
Whatever; he is quite funny in his books.
Part of me is a little disappointed that we didn’t elect a Gorn to the Senate. Oh well.
Republicans tend to stick to porno and snuff mags.
Republicans have failed sense of humor as well as general ideology. Too bad for you.
I agree and I for one am completely disgusted!!!
Good.
Call Pawlenty now at 651-296-3391 and demand he sign the certificate without delay! Al should be sworn in on Monday morning.
I love the timing of this…this story will walk all over the unallotment cuts that will be implemented tomorrow! Say, isn’t the legislative committee on grandstanding meeting today?
Ah. Just like a republican to turn lemons into political gain. Bravo.
Wash, rinse, repeat: The Ruling reminds us that Coleman’s attorneys stated during oral arguments that there was no fraud by voters or election officials. Commit to memory and interject whenever conspiracy theorists start throwing “stolen election” around.
Yes, Uosdwis. The Supreme Court is in cohoots with Pawlenty! Conspiracy!
Seriously, Congrats to Franken. I didn’t vote for him and I doubt I’ll support many of his policies, but it is time for him to begin establishing a record for me to judge as a voter in 2014.
I hope he serves with the memory that he won by the slimmest margin of any Senator (perhaps any Congressperson0 in Minnesota’s history. Yes, he is a Senator and he has the right to vote as he wishes. But unlike the current Senior Senator from Minnesota, he hardly goes to DC with mandate.
Here’s to Franken doing a good job in Rudy Boschwitz’ Senate seat.
Very funny. I believe Paul Wellstone also served in this seat.
Here’s to Franken doing a good job in Paul Wellstone’s Senate seat.
There corrected that for you Dan.
So maybe we don’t live in a cold Iran… couldn’t tell that by the Republican’s trying out dictator-style.
I say Boschwitz’ seat. You say Wellstone’s. We are each free to call it whatever we want.
It is soon going to be occupied by Franken, and I’m excited to see if he can prove my image of him wrong. Time will tell. I genuinely wish him luck as a public servant, but he’ll need to earn my political support.
Don’t know why he should bother. You and your ilk are ass-backward, and no matter what Franken does, you will never vote for him.
Republicans are a relic of the past. Nobody should go out of their way to prove anything to a republican.
My “ilk”?
Based on what I know of you based on your posts, the odds of me voting for a non-Republican are many times great than of you voting for a non-Democrat.
I evaluate each candidate for election or re-election on their positions and their track record. Franken has every opportunity to earn my support.

Completely classless.
COngratulations to Franken. I aim to give him as much respect based on this judicial decision as Democrats did to George W. Bush after the Supreme Court determined he was the winner in 2000.
By the way, Republicans are anything but a relic of the past.
Last year you ran what you regularly portray as the most gifted speaker since Aristotle against a decrepit tired old man who didn’t want to fight for the office, and a political neophyte who had no idea what she was doing.
You only won by 3 percentage points nationally.
The Republicans were saying the same things about your party in 2004. Enjoy the absolute power. I guarantee you’d lose at least one of the Presidency, House or Senate in 2012. Enjoy it.
3 percent? Obama won by 7 percent. Nice job on the math, relic.
Jason,
We determined the winner in Minnesota. The Supreme Court prevented that from happening in Florida. “the most gifted speaker since Aristotle” is a black guy named Barack Hussein Obama. That he won at all is historic. If the Republican Party moderates, it will rebound quickly. If it remains the party of Limbaugh, Hannity, Bachmann, Palin, Cheney et al, Bernie Madoff will be walking the streets before you will see a comeback.
We = attorneys. Attorneys decided this election, after the election, by determining which votes to count and which to reject.
It doesn’t matter who votes, it matters who counts the votes. Never forget it.
Jason the freaked conspiraccy theorist, making crap up as he goes.
You just can’t get over the fact that Franken won, fair and square. You are indeed a relic.
Pete -
I don’t care that Franken won. My life isn’t dictated by who is the second senator from Minnesota. Thankfully it doesn’t matter to me or my family.
Open your mind and flip the parties. You’d be going nuts if Coleman won the way Franken did. Just admit it. It’s no big deal. I highly doubt you accepted Florida 2000 in this way, but you would have if Gore won. There’s no problem with that as long as you’re honest about it.
I will now go back to being a relic due to the fact that I don’t drink the Democratic Kool-Aid.
Nice try, Junior.
We = Minnesota
Florida was not allowed to complete its own count.
The process included much more than just attorneys.
It does matter who votes, the margin of victory was miniscule. Had it been wider no additional scrutiny would have been required.
Judges, not attorneys, made the final rulings.
You are correct on one point, it does matter who counts. In Minnesota we have a high integrity system and the majority will accept the validity of this election.
Never forget what? I’ve forgotten more in my lifetime than you are likely to learn in yours. Learning requires a receptive mind. Yours is closed.
Jason, did you participate in the Recount? I did and it was the most clear example of citizen participation in governance I have ever seen in my life. It was fair, transparent and done by citizens of Minnesota. I spent hours sitting next to partisan Republicans, including the founder of the Taxpayers League, examining every vote cast in a bunch of precincts… with each side able to challenge or accept the vote being examined.
Citizens decided this election and to say otherwise is harmful to democracy and the State of Minnesota. We proved to the nation that our elections are clean and examples of good governance.
Fantastic Ron. Way to characterize and personally attack someone on a blog. You’re a big-timer.
Attorneys determined what the judges ruled on. Read the Wall Street Journal editorial this morning about how this went down, and open your mind. The judges couldn’t overrule what was certified. Franken and co. knew that. So, they brought rejected votes in without standards. Coleman couldn’t fight that. His win turned into a loss. Oh well - no biggie.
But don’t act like this post-election-rigging is anything different than Bush 2000. You’re just happy because your guy won. If Norm had done what Franken did this board would be crying disenfranchisement, racism, unequal protection. You don’t care because your party won. Admit it - I have no problem with it. It’ll happen again to both parties.
You’ve forgotten more in your lifetime than I’m likely to learn in mine?
That’s cute. All that means is that I have a general idea of how old you are. I have no interest in personally attacking you, since I would prefer to sit down with you and discuss the merits of what you believe in person rather than attacking your intelligence over a blog. I’ll try not to be offended while I stare at my two college degrees and magna cum laude law diploma hanging in my office.
You guys should read the WSJ editorial on this - it is hilarious. Jason, you may be too dumb to understand that the WSJ editorial page is a joke, but since you are living in Minnesota, even you must see how ridiculous that story is. Or are you even dumber than we all thought?
Wellstone’s. Humphrey’s?
Wellstone’s the one who made it special
“Wellstone’s. Humphrey’s?
Wellstone’s the one who made it special”
What is it with left wingers talking shit about Hubert Humphrey?
Paul Wellstone for all he was, was no Hubert Humphrey. Food stamps, talking to Kruschev, the first peace corp bill, the civil rights act, Hubert Humphrey wasn’t just a powerful advocate for liberalism, he was also a powerful force for it.
We should all be honored if Al Franken is half the Senator of Hubert Humphrey, Walter Mondale or Paul Wellstone was.
Sean
“Talking shit?” Humphrey got a mention. Too young for Vietnam?
Wellstone wasn’t always a personal favorite. Amuseinc mentions Gene McCarthy.
Humphrey might have done some great things at one time, but he was a party to the mess
that was Vietnam in his role as VP. Even though the insider word was that he was opposed, I think.
He tainted his own record with that, as far as I am concerned.
We must admit that Al Franken does have some big shoes to fill.. Hubert Humphrey, Eugene McCarthy, Walter Mondale and Paul Wellstone were all great Minnesota Senators. Most specifically Hubert Humphrey first articulated the modern liberal positions that still stand today. We have a tradition of sending smart, top quality Democrats to the Senate, along with a few empty suit Republicans who never amount to much. I look forward to working on Franken’s 2014 (?) campaign.
Dave Durenberger seemed like a good guy to me. What was up with that? Was he really a crook or did he become a target within his own Party because he was moderate? I lived out of state at the time and missed most of the details.
We own the seat and we have asked Franken to fill it for now. He is a little rough around the edges but good where it counts. He is a an intelligent man with a razor sharp wit with and a heart of gold. He’s good enough, he’s smart enough and dogone it, I think we’ll like him.
@ Jason (who gives “Jason” a bad name)
“completely classless”
Take it up with toe tapping bathroom goblin Sen Craig(R) or diaper wearing hooker afficianado Sen. Vitter(R) I personally don’t give a flying flip what you, or any republican thinks.
Sad.
I would agree there.
WallStreetJournal - the Rupert Murdoch paper?
Didn’t they dump reporters & editors?
Be that as it may, the fact is that if Jason wants a flawless system, then he must help create one for
the future, instead of whine about this one because he didn’t like the outcome.
It simply is NOT the same circumstance as Florida. To say so implies ignorance.
Coleman did not make a case.
It is interesting to me that not one single Republican Senator from Minnesota can be considered anything but a minor light in American History. I suppose an arguement could be made for Alexander Ramsey (1863-1875) because of the Civil War. Other than him you are left with William Windom for getting appointed twice and elected once for a three times over career.
I’d love to hear the argument for Gram, Durenberger or Boshwitz as historic American Senators. They certainly don’t measure up to Humphrey, and I’m thinking of Muriel. Is it because the Republicans of Minnesota favor empty suits for candidates, I’ll have to ask whats’ his name Kennedy.
