Brod’s First Campaign Hire Ought To Be A Fact Checker

A lot of Republicans (and some Democrats) think that St. Rep. Laura Brod is the MN GOP’s best shot at keeping the Governor’s Mansion next fall.  I don’t think Brod is all that formidable of a candidate, but if she is serious about taking a shot at the big chair, she needs to do a better job of fact checking her public statements.

From Minnesota Progressive Project we learn that Brod Tweeted the following yesterday morning:

laurabrod Did you know… Ontario women wait 168 days for breast cancer surgery and men wait 98 days for prostate surgery. about 2 hours ago from web

Frankly, I’m a little shocked that this passed Brod’s smell test. I would think any reasonable person would find that stat suspicious. Two Putt Tommy did the leg work proving Brod was way off the mark. Turns out the average wait time for breast cancer surgery is 34 days, and that serious cases get immediate treatment.

Canada’s health care system isn’t perfect, but to quote Daniel Patrick Moynihan: “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts.”

  • She is a conservative Republican, if she had the moral and intellectual capacity to deal with facts she would not be either one.

  • And we are supposed to trust the highly partisan TPT?

  • You are using the private sector numbers to lower the averages. Take a look at the public sector numbers exclusively. I’ll expect an apology to Rep. Brod within the hour.

    • If Rep. Brod is going to pull one of those “here’s what I really meant, even if I didn’t quite say it” defenses, it is she who should apologize. Misstating her figures by leaving out a crucial limitation borders on lying (in fact, in consumer advertising, it would be considered deceptive or misleading).

What are those “public sector numbers,” and where did she find them?

    • Her numbers are so far off that isn’t even possible. Laura Brod should apologize for being such a liar and you should apologize for being such an idiot. I won’t hold my breath for either.

    • Why? Brod didn’t specify public numbers exclusively.

    • yaz is a troll

      • Yas not only is a troll, he’s a dumb(cheney)in’ one at that. Or a liar. Well, probably both.

The numbers I used were all - ALL - from the Canadian Ministry of Health, for PUBLIC healthcare.

  • Entenza must have sent over the morning orders to attack Brod…..If Brod is the GOP nominee, this helps Kelliher win the DFL endorsement. No Democrat in their right minds wants a male Democrat going against a female Republican in the general election.

  • guyg, according to AAA at Residual Forces, it’s Marty Seifert that’s “stickin’ it to” Laura Brod. From the BlogPost Andy put up this morning, then promptly took down:

A couple of things we are taking note of are: A building and aggressive whisper campaign targeting Rep. Laura Brod (R-25A, New Prague), attempting to undermine her gubernatorial campaign aspirations. The tactics at play are challenges to her adherence to core family values and the sanctity of marriage. The alleged culprits of the attack are Seifert supporters with speculation of the ringleader being the candidate himself.

I haven’t seen any “attacks” on Brod’s alleged misbehavin’ on lefty blogs; I have seen “attacks” on Brod’s alleged misbehavin’ on RIGHTY blogs - such as MDE.

Tand it’s an important distinction: lefty blogs are only “reporting” on the righty attacks on Brod.

But, hey - with the selection of Brodkorb to GOP Party Leadership, reasonable people just knew - KNEW - the GOPers were going to stay as ugly and disgusting as they already were…..

  • Your posts make it sound like you are really scared of any GOP candidate. If they are as stupid as you say, leave them alone and they will implode.

And, if Two Putt is doing the fact checking, it must be right, hahaha.

  • Posted canadian wait times for breast cancer are from time of positive result and call for radiation/surgery to date scheduled. Do not include wait time for primary care or imaging. Wat times also do not include those who seek care in the US or those hospitals that do not report.

Yesterday I posted an article about a Canadian physician who is trying to revamp breast cancer screening after a young mother of four under his care died as a result being trapped in the system that took NINE MONTHS to diagnose her cancer.

I will be posting cancer death rates on breast and prostate in the next couple days for US and Canada.
