Zellers Is The New House Minority Leader

As I predicted yesterday, State Representative Kurt Zellers has been elected the next Leader of the House Republican Caucus. Zellers was probably the best choice for the House Republican Caucus, especially considering his opponent was failed CD1 candidate Randy Demmer (who I mistakenly called Paul yesterday, an error all the more inexcusable given the number of posts I wrote about Demmer during his incompetent congressional campaign).

  • Most people in the state don’t know of Zellers. He has a real opportunity to help them form their opinion of him.

Will he validate the DFL rhetoric that his is the party of no?

Or will he begin the long process of retaking the middle, something that the Democrats were on the verge of doing but number say the independents identifying as Democrats has fallen sharply in the past two months?

    We shall see.

  • I don’t know how many capitol reporters remember this incident. (Zellers is mentioned in the 7th paragraph.)

In any case, Seifert was a dark horse to the press corps when he became Minority Leader. Zellers, having been a spokesman for Grams and Coleman on their Senate campaigns, has some history with these guys. I wonder how that will play out in the coverage he gets.
