No, of course not. It’s because the Supreme Court didn’t want to face facts, according to Minnesota Majority:
The conservative coalition that filed suit in May against Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie and 31 county auditors is accusing the Minnesota Supreme Court of dismissing the lawsuit Thursday to spare itself “the embarrassment of having to acknowledge major election system problems after just issuing its decision in the (Norm Coleman-Al Franken) contest.”
…
“Here you have a major U.S. Senate race being decided by just a few hundred votes, and along comes our case citing the fact that the secretary of state has been unable to account for tens of thousands of voters in the 2008 election,” Minnesota Majority president Jeff Davis said in a statement. “You can see why the court might not want to touch this case with a 10-foot pole.”
Incredible. Are they really so deluded by their hatred of Ritchie? They’re seriously arguing that our Supreme Court decided to abdicate their responsibility and refuse to apply the rule of law? I’m pretty sure the right’s hatred of Ritchie now borders on psychosis.

Jeff, these rightwingnuts believe simply unbelievable things. You are correct; they are arguing that a right-leaning State Supreme Court, led by Tim Pawlenty’s old law firm collegue, ignores the law and is in the pocket of Mark Ritchie.
This is the Party Of Brodkorb’s deliberate attempt to mislead and smear at the state level - the same way the GOP misleads and smears at the national level.
actually the court was pretty much tripartisan , two Pawlenty appointees, one non-partisan, one Ventura appointee and one elected DFL Sos, but damn the facts as long as they further your agenda!
This would be the same Mark Ritchie who was just voted to head up the national organization for Secretaries of State?
Yeah, that guy has no credibility at all. Prolly even thinks Obama was born in Hawaii….
Will somebody please slap these morons… questioning the Supreme Court is a bit much. What possible gain would come out of them “throwing” the election to Franken? Yes it was a very close race but just because they lost doesn’t mean they should attack the judicial system… I hope the voters are paying attention to the absurdity of the Republican base. We should never let these fools get within a mile of governing.
Republicans who believe getting blood from a turnip will uncover a smoking gun??
Keep looking GOP!!!
This is coming from a group that espoused the virtues of racial “purity”. Then, when busted, defended themselves by saying it was all just scientific. Eugenics has been discredited so man times, but time and time again, white supremacists try and hide behind what they call science. The Minnesota Majority is, by all obvious definitions, a white supremacist group.
They are conservatives, it is unreasonable to expect that facts, truth or logic enter into their though processes.
Minnesota majority is Mary Kiffmeyer’s organization.
The same people who stated that the reason infant mortality is higher in the US than in Sweden is because Sweden is racially pure.
These are the same people who proclaimed that something like 10,000 dead people voted in Minnesota last election.
I think a good way to improve the integrity of elections is to do away with the secret ballot. That way if voter intent is questioned, you can ask the voter. Also if a voter is found to be ineligible for any reason (death, citizenship, felon, dual registration in different districts, etc.) those specific ballots can be disregarded. What do you think?
Do you know of any rationale for the large discrepancy between between number of voters, and ballots cast? or the delay in updating the voter registration information? or follow up on identified discrepancies on the voter registration list/roster? I’m willing to accept benign, verifiable answers. There isn’t necessarily a scandal or story here. These are reasonable questions and there may well be noncontroversial answers. Seems like the Sec o State should know the answer. It is certainly within the scope of the office/position. Some would say it is the primary function, to ensure election integrity. Taxpayers and voters are asking.
Also I haven’t heard any solution from the Sec o State about varying standards used by local election officials by which to judge absentee ballots. I’m willing to accept a decent explanation why it isn’t a problem, if that is the contention.
