Palin says no scandal…

…which means she’s apparently just bored of Alaska.

I wrote on Friday that I was going to avoid snarky comments on Palin’s bizarre decision to abdicate her responsibility to her state, because I assumed something awful must be about to come to light. Palin, though, said nothing was wrong, and in her typical style lashed out at the media for daring to speculate:

“How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it’s about country,” Palin wrote. “And though it’s honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make.”

It’s about country? Or it’s about your massive ego and your demand for a larger stage? I have a tough time figuring out how this move is for the good of the country, or even for the good of your state. It’s nice that you think you have a “higher calling” than serving your state, but delusions or grandeur notwithstanding, you have a job to do. Yes, others have “left their positions” when tapped by the president to serve in national office. That’s a little bit different than your decision to resign early because you want to run for president three years from now.

If there’s really no scandal brewing, than Palin’s decision boils down to nothing more than a temper tantrum. She’s furious that she’s been a target for liberals, and she interprets nearly everything as an attack on her family. She wants to be the head of the Republican party, but she wants to do it without media attention. So she’s quitting. You won’t have Sarah Palin to kick around anymore.

But Palin will have to change more than her job title to get away from the media attention. She’ll have to change her entire political style, including the negative attacks, the narcissism, and the insane tendency to turn every minor disagreement into a media circus. You can’t reasonably practice this type of politics and ask that people not respond in kind. Her position as Alaska’s Governor has nothing to do with the attention she receives, and if she’s really planning to focus on a “higher calling,” it’s not going away unless she dramatically changes her style.

  • Voters don’t elect quitters.

  • She’s nuts. She threw a dig Pawlenty’s way when quitting. It’s clear - she needs money to fight her legal fights, and she’s going to go give speeches to conservative PACs. Instead of her mindless drivel, she ought to just be honest about it. Guess that’s too much to ask.

  • Yeah…”it’s about country”…takes guts to say that being married to a secessionist…

  • Bottom line is, she’s a quitter. Limbaugh can claim the compliant is simply inside the beltway, but he’s wrong (no shock), and he can claim she ‘not formulaic’ - translated Republican spin of ‘she does the unexpected - including the daffy.’

Neo-cons and Republicans I know think she shirked her responsibilities, regardless of her motivations. She had a duty to the people of Alaska, she dropped. That she was going to be a ‘lame duck’ is a sorry excuse (in fact it’s no excuse) - MANY other Governors have fulfilled that role. By her standard every Governor who ‘has the country in mind’ should quit their job as soon as they know/announce they won’t run again. What utter nonsense.

She quit meaning to focus on her national career - but insteadn and ironically by doing so she inadvertantly quit her political career.

    • You’re right. There’s an interesting Huffington Post read out there which lists all of her “quitting” incidences - they’ve happened since she started going to college. She needs to Exit …. Stage Left.

  • Boy you guys sure are obsessed with Palin. How about instead you talk about the economy and how GREAT the stimulus plan has been?! Or maybe, about how Guantanamo Bay isn’t really going to close?

Washington politicians just want your money and your vote, they don’t care about what policies get passed.

    • Yup. Key indicators are looking up. Thanks for the reminder that Obama seems to be pulling us out of the fire Bush threw us into. Conservatives are good for something occasionally…just like a stopped clock.

  • Weird that the FBI commented.
OK, the scandal angle is exhausted for the moment.
So what’s the explanation? She signed up for a 4 year tour & quitting on that is not like leaving a regular job.

Don’t pay attention to Palin? Wouldn’t that be blasphemous?
She’s opted to be an indignant celebrity. After being the “pit bull” for McCain - and said things that were pretty
     extreme.

She’s going to want all out attention in the coming weeks, for her speaking & ghost-written book tours.
When she’s got something to hawk again, then she’ll love the attention.

Is there a press release or newsletter that goes out when we’re supposed to pay attention again?

  • Actually, I hope she does do a speaking circuit. That way, she can unfetter her unhinged ideas and diminish any further Republican credibility they have left.

    • A lot of time to try & remake her image from the attack dog that incited crowds.
      She is the DECOY.

While she’s visiting Nieman-Marcus there won’t be time to realize they will probably discard the husk
when they’ve used her up on the right!

  • The speaking tour is obvious:
She wants the money that Ann Coulter pulls.
I can see a little bit of that, even as I dislike her. Making money is OK. But to bail on what you
    signed on for is pathetic.

Could the son in the military just decided to bail before his tour is up?

So, she’s an empty vessel. Needs to be told what to think & how to say it.
I’ve seen it suggested that Bill Kristol, Pat Buchanan & Chris Matthews will have to Indian wrestle for her
    undying adoration!

  • Does a vice-presidential candidate get the government health care? Serious question.
And do they keep it after they bail?

Shouldn’t health care MATTER to Palin with a passel of kids?

  • Palin’s future: sports reporter?

Does Rush Limbaugh want her to be his “Mika?” TV girl Friday?

  • Now if only Gov. Mark Sanford would follow Palin’s lead and RESIGN as well!!! At least we would know WHY!!!

  • Tying the story together & the Cover of the new Dan Brown book:

I haven’t seen anything yet to suggest they had Michael Jackson killed so that she could
    acquire his publicist.

  • Election day 2010 - voters will be more concerned about

    A - Sarah Palin OR
B - Double digit unemployment and Double Digit inflation?

2010 is looking like a very tough year for the Dems….

  • Thanks largely to Republicans? Let’s not forget who’s broke our backs on this mountain!

Yes, its a serious problem that transcends a lot of things.
Do you really think the culpable Republicans will get a pardon?

But dear Sarah seems to be taking advantage of the Jackson funeral news cycle.
Or is it the media with a sidebar story?

In the meantime AEC makes a bundle hyping it & leaves LA holding.
We go from circus to circus.

  • By the way, thank you Democrats for spending more money growing the size of our military. Vote progressive! HA!

    http://www.armytimes.com/news/2009/07/army_bigger_070609w/

    • That’s because democrats ACTUALLY support the troops, as opposed to just paying lip service, while cutting funds.

    • Boy guyg, you are desperate. You can’t say anything of substance on the topic in question, huh? Have to resort to totally unrelated attacks.

      • No impulse control?
        Are there medications for that?

He has to glom onto the pitbull thread.

  • guyg: Did Mickey Dolenz play you in the series?

  • Wow…Democrats won’t pass a bill that the public is opposed to? Good luck with that legislative agenda!!

    Tax on health benefits fading?
Lawmaker says polling shows strong public opposition to tax on health benefits

WASHINGTON (AP) — A key lawmaker says senators at work on health care legislation are having second thoughts about imposing a tax on high-end insurance coverage that workers receive on the job.

Sen. Kent Conrad says polling shows widespread public opposition to the idea, and lawmakers are now considering other options to help pay for an expansion of care to millions of people who now lack insurance.

  • Palin thread here.

Meantime Sarah Palin has new handlers? Bill Kristol’s pretty face?

  • Update: http://thinkprogress.org/2009/07/08/palin-hillary-whining-time/

Like a slimy used-car seller, when cornered she pulls a new one right outa her ass. Guess what everybody, as of now, there’s different “types” of whining!

    What a douchebag.

  • Palin’s hygiene is not what I care about.
She has enough negatives without going to that extreme.

Or was that in response to guyg trolling?

As far as her Nieman-Marcus Waders - I didn’t know they made ‘em, dontcha know.
