Policy wonk Al Franken to be sworn in

I really like it when Al Franken gets into policy wonk mode. Yes, he can get boring and pedantic. But isn’t that really what we want in a Senator — someone who can get boring sometimes because he’s focused on policy details?

Here’s Franken speaking at a press conference yesterday about what’s important to Minnesotans. As Vin Weber has said, I think Minnesotans will be pleasantly surprised by Franken.

  • I am looking forward to him getting up to speed, too. And relax.
The above was a little dry, but he was standing next to Harry Reid.

The rally last Wednesday at the capitol was pretty good, other than it appeared that everyone wanted a piece of him.

I would guess we might see more actual access to Franken than we have had to Coleman & the rest.
The soundbites hopefully will be more scintillating & meaningful than the voice Norm assumed.

  • I hope he does well. My two favorite Democrats were Wellstone and Feingold. Wellstone died without ever surrendering his principals to politics and Feingold lasted a couple terms before he did. We can’t really do anything but taken him at his word that he’ll try to do the best for all Minnesotans.
