Quick Question, Re: Comments (please provide input!)

I was warned.  IntenseDebate comments are really bugging me.  The moderation problems, the login problems, and (the final straw) sometimes not viewable on the iPhone.  I’m still a little torn though—the various ways to login make it more accessible and it does plug us into a larger community.

So, I’ve temporarily reverted to the old-style comments.

Here’s my question:  Should I just stick with the old-style and call it a day?  Or stick with IntenseDebate and try to squash the bugs?

Let me know, ‘cause it’s you guys that feel the pain or the joy, one way or the other.

  • They’re not viewable on an iPhone? All we get up here is Verizon.

  • I just signed up with WordPress and synched with IntenseDebate, so I’m happy to go along with ditching the glitchy software.

    • How’s IntenseDebate working for you? I like the idea of it, but the execution is leaving something to desire…

      • It seemed to be working fine to me. I’ve been a little confused about logging in sometimes (there appears to be a separate login for WordPress and IntenseDebate and I was never sure which one I was getting; in addition, I kept getting logged out and had to log back…and with the number of user ids/passwords I have between work and personal use: OY!).

I have noticed several of my comments in the GOP Goes Mad All the Time thread have disappeared, but I haven’t lost many comments before.

      • There were a couple of things I liked about IntenseDebate but on the balance, I was used to the old school style. What I missed most was the ability to look and click on the last comment and be immediately taken to that comment.

  • I spent a good 20 minutes trying to get a login and pw that worked until I just said eff it and just put in my name and email in and gave up on having an account.

Either way works best for me, and since this way is less of a head ache for you, go with it.

  • This way seems fine to me. Easy to read, easy to post on. Unless someone has other thoughts.

  • I’ve had more glitches with intense debate than I ever had with the old system. My vote is for old school.

  • I read, I think, I comment. I have no idea what intense debate is. I don’t login; I didn’t know I needed to. I have an Iphone but I don’t use it for this. It used to be easier to find new comments. It was easier to follow the progression of comments in the old formaat. The length limitation keeps me from droning on though.

  • As an aside, I don’t comment for sport. I prefer this forum to others because it is more civilized and has been the most user friendly. I appreciate that your readers experience is important to you.
