2. We’re hearing that EdMN will be endorsing MAK sometime soon.
3. We’re hearing that SEIU will endorse Rybak before the convention.
That is all. Thank you for your time.

What is with these unions throwing away their endorsements on Margaret Anderson Coakley?
Ugghhh, the EdMn convention is in March, don’t you think they might wait until then?
My husband calls me The Subversive Spanish teacher. I guess I will be living up to my name with my enthusiastic support for RT.
I suppose EdMn is not supporting Rybak because he sent his kids to private school (Breck). If the mayor doesn’t believe in his own public schools, do we really want him running the state?
The Minneapolis public schools are run by the school board and the superintendent they hire, not by the mayor.
Rybak’s campaign website touts his work to improve the schools (guess it wasn’t enough in Rybak’s eyes): http://www.rtrybak.com/pages/education-and-the-next-generation/
Rybak’s own push polling extolls his influence on the public schools (apparently he couldn’t convince himself to send his kids there):

I know this is imperceptible to a certain zealot, but this pretty much defuses the “private school” nonsense.
A Union endorsement carries the same weight to me on the DFL side as a Taxpayer’s League endorsement does on the GOP side:
Buyer beware.
For the EdMin endorsement, I’d say its about one thing: race to the top funding. Minnesota could get several hundred million dollars of funding from the Feds for education. Given the state of the state’s budget, this could be huge for being seen as the Speaker who did something other than preside over two budget sessions where the governor kicked the crap out of us.
MAK is the Speaker of the House - if they don’t endorse, I think that the charter schools would be seeing a good deal of that money. They endorse, the union has some happier members.
