Republican economist Zandi: The stimulus has saved millions of jobs

For the second time in a month, noted economist and former McCain adviser Mark Zandi has broken with Republican party talking points and explained that the stimulus has saved millions of jobs.

“I think we’d be in a measurably worse place if not for the stimulus,” Zandi said at the Christian Science Monitor breakfast this morning. “If we had not had the stimulus…we’d have fewer jobs today than we actually have.” […]

“Without the stimulus spending,” Zandi insisted, “instead of a 9.5 percent unemployment rate, we’d have an 11.5 percent unemployment rate.” [TPMDC, via MN Progressive Project, emphasis mine]

I’m going to repeat this over and over again. The GOP wants to end a policy that has saved millions and millions of jobs. You think things are bad right now? Just imagine if John Boehner were Speaker of the House.
