When Tom Emmer attempts to demonize public employees, he demonstrates his ignorance and arrogance. To say that public employees make 30 to 40 percent more than private sector workers is more than just misleading, it’s irresponsible.

We’ve sacrificed pay increases in return for maintaining benefits and pensions many times. Just this last contract, our members accepted a two-year wage freeze for keeping a lid on health-care costs.

Emmer needs to concentrate on finding a realistic solution to the state’s massive budget deficit. Emmer should remember that he seeks to demonize MAPE members who help Minnesotans find jobs, keep our water and our food safe, and serve our veterans.

Jim Monroe from the Minnesota Association of Professional Employees, responding to Tom Emmer’s claim that public employees are overpaid.

I explained this morning why that claim is false.
