Republicans think they have a chance in MN-01

This election year, I haven’t really paid much attention to Congressional races. That’s because, in my opinion, I don’t really see any of them as being particularly competitive. I don’t think it’s too likely that any seats in Minnesota’s delegation are likely to change this year. Nevertheless, the National Republican Congressional Committee seems to think they have a shot against Tim Wals:

The National Republican Congressional Committee announced Thursday that they were elevating Walz’s challenger, Republican Randy Demmer, to their “Young Guns” list. For Demmer, it means the national party will provide him with additional support during the final stretch of the campaign.

I don’t see it happening. Walz has tremendous bipartisan appeal, and he has been a fantastic Representative. He has been a tireless worker for his district, and I think all of his constituents know that. As Bluestem Prairie points out, the FiveThirtyEight model gives Walz a 96% chance of winning.

As I said, I haven’t really been keeping tabs on the race, so your best bet if you want to get up to speed is the excellent Bluestem Prairie. Here are a few articles to get you started: Randy Demmer’s multiple positions on Social Security, his request that Walz stop talking to veterans, and his false claims that the unemployed are turning down work.
