Republican efforts to prevent economic recovery continue

Last week, Republicans unanimously voted to block the American Jobs Act, once again proving that they’re perfectly willing to sabotage the economy to turn voters against Barack Obama in 2012. Obama and the Democrats, in response, vowed to bring the bill back to the floor piece by piece and force Republicans to vote against each part of the plan.

Yesterday, Republicans unanimously voted against providing aid to states to prevent the layoffs of teachers, police officers and firefighters. The bill would have saved 400,000 jobs and helped communities around the country. But to the GOP, that’s secondary to their bid for the White House in 2012.

I hope the American people are watching this behavior carefully. Such willful disregard for the well-being of our country, solely to score political points, should not go unpunished.
