Romney about to get what’s coming to him
Mitt Romney has a strategy for defeating Barack Obama: hard-hitting, unrelenting dishonesty. His standard of what should be accepted as a true statement is simply outrageous. You’d think he would have realized, when setting that standard, that it could possibly come back to hurt him.
It most definitely is going to come back to hurt him, now that the Democrats have video of him saying the following:
I like being able to fire people who provide services to me.
Ouch. That’s going to hurt, especially in light of the battle to define the meaning of Romney’s work with Bain Capital.
Now here’s the thing. As Greg Sargent points out, that quote is out of context. Romney was trying to illustrate why the free market is the best vehicle for providing health insurance. But by the Romney standard of accuracy, this is totally fair game.
Romney’s going to get hammered for this, and he deserves it. He deserves it not because of what he said, but because of his own despicable dishonesty so far in this campaign. He deserves a taste of his own medicine, and he’s not going to like it.
