We should all thank Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who has been fighting for us day in and day out. Before the tax handout to the aristocracy was approved in the Senate today, Sanders has offered an amendment that would have significantly improved the bill. Sanders would prefer to focus on helping the 98 percent of us who are mostly overlooked by the bill in its current form. The Sanders amendment would:

• Let the tax breaks for the richest 2 percent expire
• Invest in our infrastructure to help stabilize the economy
• Replace the payroll tax holiday in the bill, which actually hurts the poor,* with an extension of the Making Work Pay tax credit.

Thank you, Senator Sanders, for working for the American people instead of the aristocracy.

*It’s true — the payroll tax holiday would actually raise taxes on the poor. More on that tomorrow.
