Dear rich people

I’ve been hearing a lot lately about how the rich have it rough. Poor fellows, you’ve worked and worked. You’ve never ever taken advantage of our public wealth (such as schools and infrastructure) to build your success. Why should you have to “subsidize” the rest of us?

I’m sorry you feel that way. But you know, you owe at least some of your success to our shared investment in public wealth. And let’s be honest: Right now, you’re getting a lot more value out of it than the rest of us.

Over the past decade, you’ve experienced all of the income growth in the nation. What’s more, your taxes are the lowest they’ve been in decades. I’m sorry you feel you’re getting the short end of the stick. But believe me — the rest of us feel very much the same.
