Republicans shut down the state to protect millionaires

Even with a shutdown looming, Republicans absolutely refused to compromise. Governor Dayton offered another $100 million in cuts, while Republicans stood by their “offer” of $0 in additional revenue. In fact, they even rejected a Dayton compromise to limit new taxes only to Minnesotans making over $1 million a year.

This is absolutely insane. The Republicans would rather shut down the government than ask the 0.3% of Minnesotans who make over $1 million a year to pay their fair share of taxes. Why should the super-rich get this special treatment when the GOP is more than happy to heap pain on the rest of us?

If you’re wondering who to blame for the shutdown, it’s the party that has refused to compromise for months, demanding massive cuts to services we all use in order to protect the super-rich.
