Let’s hold the bottom 90% harmless

Since when did shared sacrifice stop including the very richest? It’s absolutely indefensible to me that the MNGOP insists all Minnesotans except the richest 2 percent must sacrifice. Why should the richest get special treatment?

If you ask me, it’s time we reversed things. If we’re not going to have true shared sacrifice, let’s have the richest 10 percent of Minnesotans sacrifice, and hold the rest of Minnesota harmless. The richest 10 percent pay less than the rest of us anyway - isn’t it time the rich sacrificed for a change?

Let’s hike taxes on the richest 10 percent and fully fund state services. Conservatives will scream class warfare at this proposal, I’m sure. But how is it any different than the GOP’s insistence that some Minnesotans must not be asked to make any sacrifices?

I’m arguing that the richest 10 percent — those most able to pay — must pay their fair share. The MNGOP, on the other hand, is arguing that the super rich — the richest 2 percent — must be completely exempt from the sacrifices the rest of us are making. Which makes more sense to you?
